DINNER-TIME DOWNPOURS DISSIPATING... MORE NUMEROUS SHOWERS, DOWNPOURS WITH THUNDER OVERNIGHT MAINLY AFTER MIDNIGHT AND BEFORE DAWN... ADDITIONAL SHOWERS / STORMS THURSDAY

Good evening folks, with respect to the mid-day post I made about isolated stormy weather this late afternoon, we’ve pretty much seen that fire as showers and downpours with a few cracks of thunder. As we near the 6pm hour, that activity is on the wane, making way for a stronger and more widespread period of wet weather after midnight tonight.

High temps generally reached the mid 70s to mid 80s across a large part of the greater WMass region with a few low 70s readings in SVT. As our WednesDay turns to WednesNight, we’ll see mild lows settle to either side of 60º.

But before that happens, we’ll see the Mesoscale Convective System (i.e. a large, strong cluster of thunderstorms) that’s currently active and located over northeast Ohio, northwest PA and far western NY hold its form to some degree as it tracks eastward across northern PA and southern NY this evening.

Between about midnight and 3am it will arrive in the greater WMass region with showers, downpours and some garden variety thunderstorms with much of if not all of the strong to severe elements weakened out of any storms.

Still, it could cause some unhappy canines, and people for that matter, if a storm pops over head in the pre-dawn hours.

If we’re lucky, we’ll just get rain without any lightning/thunder, but don’t be surprised if some thunderstorms work through the region.

By dawn Thursday, all of that activity should be out of here, as we get ready to launch into one more very warm day with highs again in the mid 70s to mid 80s.

As of this evening, it appears that the strong to potentially severe thunderstorm activity will arrive in isolated to scattered coverage mainly north of the Pike and between late Thursday afternoon and Thursday night as a local trough pushes through the region ahead of a cold front.

I will update on the Friday to Tuesday period in tomorrow morning’s report, but just wanted to get out this update for our overnight period tonight.

Have a great rest of your day and evening, Dave.
