Weather Nut Update

A DECAYING THUNDERSTORM COMPLEX BRINGS PERIODS OF RAIN AFTER MIDNIGHT WITH OVERNIGHT THUNDER POSSIBLE, ALONG WITH GUSTY WINDS WEST OF I-91 AND SOUTH OF RT. 2, ESPECIALLY NW.CT
Good afternoon folks, we’ve had a mostly cloudy but mostly dry and temperate day, save for a few showers earlier in southwest MA and northwest CT from that dying old thunderstorm complex (DOTC is the technical acronym) that passed through. We’ve got another set of thunderstorm complexes developing over the Toronto metro and tracking roughly the same path towards southwest New England this evening.
We’ll be dry through about midnight, and then after that we’ll see areas of showers, downpours and even some thunderstorms move through the region, impacting mostly southwest MA down into northern CT.
I think the brunt of heaviest rainfall falls in the far southern Berkshires, western Hampden County into northwest CT we’re localized flash flooding and street flooding has the best chance of forming.
Over 2” will be possible in those areas, with less rainfall in areas generally north of the Mass Pike.
Any thunderstorms associated with the overnight complex should not be severe, but some gusty winds are possible west of the I-91 corridor as they push into the Taconics and over the New England tri-state line with eastern NY.
Wet weather lasts into early to mid-Thursday morning, and then should abate with humidity surging behind that wave, which will tee us up for some afternoon isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms.
One or two of those may become strong, and with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s and dewpoints around 70º it will feel fairly summery if we can get some sunny periods to develop, which is looking probable at the moment.
I will update again in the morning and probably be posting a very early update with active weather coming through in the morning, especially the further south you go in our region (south of the Rt. 2 corridor in WMass and northern CT).
Have a great evening, Dave.
