WIND ADVISORIES CANCELLED, FLOOD WATCH IN CMASS CONTINUES, AS PERIODS OF RAIN TONIGHT WITH A WET MONDAY MORNING COMMUTE EXPECTED… ONE MORE DAY OF RAINY PERIODS INTO MONDAY NIGHT
Good afternoon everybody, we’ve definitely added to the rain totals for today… but wait! There’s more (coming)! Not only will we see scattered showers tracking east-southeast to west-northwest through parts of our region this evening and first part of tonight, but a likely-heavier round of rain is set to wetten our Earthly surfaces during the Monday morning commute as our weakening storm exits stage right by Monday night.
Our storm is weakening now as its surface-based center continues to sit and spin over Cape May, NJ (NJ’s southern tip). This will continue to create an east-southeasterly flow off of the ocean and into southern New England, with scattered showers rotating through our region at times this evening and into the pre-dawn hours.
However, as our storm continues to weaken, it will begin to get kicked east and northeast by atmospheric features to our west, leaving the Port of Cape May for the northwestern Atlantic Ocean – safe travels, old buddy!
As this happens, it will come north a bit and its rain core will pivot in a counterclockwise fashion as it tracks north, which should push those steadier, heavier periods of rainfall northward and into the greater WMass region in the later pre-dawn hours and through Monday morning.
This will provide some slow-going for our Monday morning commute, and probably cause additional ponding and street flooding, so you might get slowed down a bit due to a rainy morning with some bigger puddles around. We’ll also continue to see gusts in the 15-25mph range tonight and into Monday, most likely, maybe up to 30mph in isolated areas.
Showers should become lighter and more scattered as the afternoon wears on, and the whole system will vamoose before midnight tomorrow night, with many folks seeing 1-4” through the three-day period of this system, along with up to 20,000 outages late last night and early today, with some sub-1” amounts in towns west of mountain areas (Bennington area, western Berkshires as examples) and over 4” mostly in CMass where a Flood Watch continues through Monday night.
I will post again in the morning with a full update, but suffice it to say we’ve got sunnier, warmer, and more peaceful weather coming for Tuesday through the end of the week, the way it looks now.
Have a great rest of your weekend!
