IT'S UNLIKELY THAT THE BLIZZARD OF 2026 WILL IMPACT THE GREATER WMASS REGION SUNDAY... AN EXTREME COLD WARNING CONTINUES FOR THE BERKSHIRES, WITH COLD WEATHER ADVISORIES ELSEWHERE
Good evening everybody, I hope you had some good things happen to you today. After the biggest widespread snowstorm we’ve seen in 5 to 10 years (remember that the western hilltowns, SVT and Berkshires and a few other spots saw a wet-snow pasting in mid-March of 2023 with 1-4 feet!), we are truly in the heart and depths of the Winter of 2025-26, which we’ll all remember for a while to come.
And as much as I love snow and big snowstorms, even I am kinda glad the Blizzard of 2026 won’t run over us this coming Sunday, because I’m telling you, if that thing came together over us with heavy snow and heavy wind, we’d have all sorts of problems, and folks are still digging out from this last one.
Now, I can’t 100% rule out a light to moderate impact (especially east of I-91), but being 60-72 hours out, the trends continue to be out to sea with respect to the greater WMass region.
This means that Sunday looks like an increasingly breezy, partly to mostly cloudy, cold day with highs in the mid teens to mid 20s, followed by wind picking up at night and gusting to 35mph with below zero wind chills as lows tank into the single digits.
Before then, we’ve got an Extreme Cold Warning up for the Berkshires tonight into early Friday morning, and Cold Weather Advisories for the rest of the region with wind chills expected to dip to -10º to -25º by early Friday morning with lows mostly below zero to a few digits above.
Friday and Saturday look cold and fair with highs only in the single digits to teens tomorrow with more below zero temps Friday night for lows, followed by sunny and cold conditions Saturday with highs in the teens to near 20º.
Have a great night!
