Weather Nut Update

SHOWERS MOVE IN AFTER MIDNIGHT, RAINY TUESDAY MORNING. OVERNIGHT THUNDER POSSIBLE, BETTER CHANCE IN AFTERNOON… HEAVIER RAINFALL WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON INTO THURSDAY, FLOODING POSSIBLE

Good afternoon folks, it’s been another peaceful day in the greater WMass region weather-wise, so I hope you got out and enjoyed even 5 minutes of it as conditions will go downhill after midnight with increasing clouds this evening as lows bottom out in the upper 50s to mid 60s overnight along with increasing humidity.

By or after midnight, we’ll see showers start to develop and track southeast into our region, and at the moment it looks like we can expect a showery, wet Tuesday morning commute in many parts of the region.

Overnight thunder is also possible, though I think the best chance for thunder (and even a strong thunderstorm or two) will occur Tuesday afternoon, especially in southwest MA and western CT as the back door cold front that dropped south today tries to return northeast as a warm front, pushing some instability back towards the state junction of NY, CT and MA near Mt. Frissell and Brace Mountain and back towards into the southern Taconics of eastern NY.

Highs Tuesday will only reach the upper 60s to mid 70s, and periods of showers and/or thunder will continue Tuesday afternoon into the evening before tapering off to isolated activity or even some drizzle overnight.

Wednesday morning looks drier for the moment, but another heavier round of rainfall is expected Wednesday afternoon, and especially Wednesday night into Thursday and while I can’t rule out thunder during that period, it’s more of a heavy rain impact and potential for street flooding and localized flash flooding that is my main concern.

I will post a full update tomorrow morning to get everyone up to speed on the latest.

Have a great evening, Dave.
