PERSEIDS PEAK OVERNIGHT… SCATTERED SHOWERS & T-STORMS MOSTLY ALONG / SOUTH OF THE PIKE LATER TONIGHT…
Good afternoon folks, we’ve got a nice late Wednesday afternoon ongoing weather-wise with mostly sunny skies along with some smoky haze continuing into this evening. We do have the Perseid Meteors peaking tonight with up to 100 per hour visible, IF we have clear skies, and that will be a growing problem as time goes on.
While we have the New Moon tonight (which eliminated any glare from moonlight) we will see clouds developing after sunset, with a low chance at visibility by the time we reach astronomical twilight which is around 10pm (nautical twilight hits at 9:20pm, and perhaps the brightest meteors could be seen between 9pm and 10pm.
We will have a cluster of showers with some embedded thunderstorms tracking east-southeast towards the southern half of WMass and much of CT by 10pm, so I think it’s going to be tough viewing for many folks, especially as you go further south of the Rt. 2 corridor in MA and CT.
Perhaps north of Rt. 2 in northern MA up into SVT and SWNH we’ll have some more partly cloudy skies with some decent meteor viewing up that way.
As for our weather, clouds will increase after sunset and between roughly 10pm and 6am we’ll see some scattered areas of wet weather, again in those southern areas along and south of the Pike primarily, and some storms may become strong with small hail, loud thunder due to their height given mid-level lapse rates, and some gusty winds between 25-40mph.
Lows will dip into the upper 50s to mid 60s, followed by Thursday morning clouds giving way to partly to mostly sunny skies with highs again in the mid 70s to mid 80s with some scattered showers or a t-storm possible north of the Pike later in the afternoon or evening.
Have a great night!
