Weather Nut Update

SINKING AIR HAS DEVELOPED OVER MUCH OF GREATER WMASS REGION AS OF 10AM... MORNING SNOW IS MOSTLY A BUST...
Good morning everybody, I wanted to jump on here and provide an update that likely better jives with what you are seeing if you live north of the CT/MA state line, which is that the morning accumulating snow forecast has busted.
The reason for this is the part of the snow shield over our region got dried out over the past few hours due to something called “subsidence” which refers to sinking (or ‘subsiding’) air.
High pressure is a form of widespread subsidence, and subsidence is a drying air motion, whereas convergence (which causes rising air) is what creates low pressure and storms.
A heavier-than-expected snow shield developed to our southwest over central NY and Pennsylvania and that appears to have “stolen the light thunder” from this morning’s expected accumulating snow.
This will drop already light-accumulation expectations to a dusting to an inch for many of us from the Pioneer Valley south and east in WMass and CMass (Greenfield south, southeast and east).
We’ll see where everything shakes out by tomorrow morning, and there are still two more pulses of light snow to come through, one this early to mid afternoon and again this evening (it is the evening and overnight pulses that brings the bulk of whatever snow that does accumulate into the Berkshires, western hilltowns and SVT), but this morning was the key to hitting 1-3″ widespread and I don’t think that will be the case as of the later morning observations.
I will update again by early afternoon…
