FLOOD WATCHES HAVE BEEN HOISTED FOR WMASS & MUCH OF NORTHERN CT FOR TUESDAY AFTERNOON THRU WEDNESDAY… PERIODS AND CLUSTER OF HEAVY RAIN AT TIMES BY LATER TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY...
Good afternoon to you all, I hope you were able to enjoy at least some of this warm mid-summer day, even though some of us in the high-terrain saw some downpours, showers, and a few thunderstorms, with some activity still ongoing in northwest C T and tracking slowly east toward Hartford County.
This activity should wind down with the setting sun, with lows dropping into the upper 50s to mid 60s overnight as humidity starts to creep up late.
While Tuesday afternoon may feature a few scattered showers or a couple of downpours with high temps reaching the 70s, most of the heaviest activity will hold off until Tuesday evening and night in SVT, WMass, and northwest / north-central CT.
This will be in response to a slow-moving, eastward-tracking upper low with surface low pressure pushing into central NY. The fact that the associated upper low will slowly climb atop the surface low and “stack” on top of it, means that everything over New England is going to sloooooow down, which should allow periods of rainfall to fall heavily at times, capable of street and/or flash flooding which should linger through Wednesday and into part of Thursday as well.
The general story is that the heaviest rainfall is expected to fall in and around the Catskills of NY, the Hudson River Valley of eastern NY on east into the Taconics of NY, southern Greens of VT, Berkshires and western hilltowns of WMass, the Litchfield Hills of CT, and into the CT River Valley of WMass and northern CT.
By Thursday night as much as 1.5” up to 5” of rain is possible over this upcoming, roughly 60-hour timeframe.
I will update again in the morning, but it continues to look soggy for mid-week, folks.
Have a great night!
