HEAT ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN HOISTED FOR THE PIONEER VALLEY, CMASS AND NORTHERN CT THURSDAY & FRIDAY… AFTERNOON SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE EACH DAY…

Good afternoon folks, I just wanted to pop my digital head in here to alert you to the Heat Advisories that will become active for the CT River Valley in WMass points south into northern CT and points east through CMass for much of Thursday and all of Friday during each day as southwest flow pumps the humidity and heat into the lower elevation parts of our region.

For tonight, humidity will continue to edge upward, and lows will settle in the 60s with a few scattered light to moderate showers around.

By Thursday morning, I can’t rule out a few heavier showers, but they should be isolated with the best chance for more substantial activity to develop late Thursday afternoon into the early evening.

High pressure will set up to our south and a broad upper trough will be sliding eastward into and through the Great Lakes.

Both of these features will be positioned in such a way as to siphon southwesterly flow from the Mid-Atlantic region and western Atlantic up and into New England, which will push our dewpoint temps into the low to mid 70s.

Yours truly will likely be steamed into a giant 6-foot carrot, suitable for dicing and inclusion into whatever hot summah stew you feel like assembling on your soupy Thursday.

I’m here to help, is what I’m trying to say.

In other words that make more sense to most people, high temps will climb into the low 80s to low 90s from high terrain to the valley, and with high dewpoints, the heat index will push into the mid to upper 90s for some of us, hence the Heat Advisory hoistings.

We could see a few downpours or a strong thunderstorm or two kick up by Thursday evening, and I will keep an eye on things in the afternoon, as any cells could produce local street flooding or strong gusty winds. Lows will drop into the mid 60s to low 70s, and patchy fog will be possible.

For Friday, it’s a bit of a rinse and repeat day: very warm to hot, very humid, and a chance for scattered downpour or t-storm activity in the afternoon.

The weekend looks very warm and humid as well with highs in the mid to upper 80s, and a chance at some afternoon showers/storms on Saturday, but I will update on that piece in tomorrow morning’s report – I just wanted to update you on the Advisories and the end of week, near-term forecast.

Have a great night!
