LOW CHANCE OF A HIGH-END WIND EVENT TOMORROW BETWEEN 1-6PM… WIND ADVISORIES UP FOR SOUTHERN VT FOR THURSDAY… I CANNOT RULE OUT A TORNADO EAST OF THE BERKSHIRES, CT RIVER EASTWARD
Good evening folks, yet another gorgeous day has been delivered and rolled out across our greater WMass hills and dales with only a few spot showers in western areas, notably in northwest CT but these fall squarely into the NoBigWhoop zone despite any brief heavier activity. It’s tomorrow about which I have more concern.
Despite a few isolated showers, fair weather will continue into this evening with sunshine followed by increasing clouds overnight with lows in the 50s.
By tomorrow morning, a warm front will be pushing into the region with showers and perhaps a few non-severe thunderstorms as more humid air and a low-level jet streak and significant wind energy are set to move through the greater WMass region.
Any early morning warm-frontal showers will come to an end around late morning as the front clears the region.
The warm sector between the warm front and cold front will be largest the further south you go away from a potent storm system that will be cranking up near Lake Ontario and tracking east-southeast up the St. Lawrence River Valley. This means that WMass, CMass and northern CT stand the best chance at heating at the surface IF we can generate enough sunny breaks after the morning cloud deck.
There will be PLENTY of wind energy moving through aloft tomorrow, and it will also be turning in the lower mile adjacent to the surface, so I cannot rule out a tornado in the 1-6pm timeframe, or a couple of damaging straight line wind gusts with any strong to severe thunderstorms that may form and tap that wind energy aloft.
At least we won’t see temps in the 90s, as that would produce a wide-spread higher-end wind event, but as it stands now, if we can heat the surface to the low 80s as dewpoints rise into the 60s to near 70º by afternoon, some strong weather is possible.
As it stands regardless of any thunderstorm activity that does form, southerly gusts will blow 25-40mph at times due to pressure differences across the region, and a siphon of south-to-north traveling air being vacuumed into the developing low center to our north and northwest.
I will update again in the morning, have a great night, Dave.
