WIND, RAIN, AND MOUNTAIN SNOW ON THE WAY, FOLKS... A WIND ADVISORY IS NOW UP FOR WORCESTER COUNTY / CMASS...

Good afternoon everybody, we’ve mostly clouded over as I write this post (mid-afternoon Friday) and clouds will continue to thicken. Our surface air is quite dry, but already moistening up in southern VT and that general trend continues into tonight with light scattered showers possible through about 9pm.

After that, we should see a period of scattered heavier showers tracking southeast through our region, staying mostly north of the MA-CT-RI state line through midnight and into the early pre-dawn hours before we get a brief lull in the action prior to a resumption of precipitation after about 6am.

Lows tonight will dip into the upper 30s to mid 40s.

Turning to the main storm impact for most of us, northwest winds will gust 15-30mph at times this evening and overnight, but trends have continued to slightly trend upward in terms of increasing northerly gusts for Saturday morning.

At this point, the entire greater WMass region (SVT, SWNH, WMass, CMass and NCT) is likely to see gusts of 30-50mph at times tomorrow morning into the early afternoon, slackening later in the day and evening.

Worcester County, being closest to the storm center is most likely to see a gust of 50mph or just above, and I can’t rule out some isolated power outages east of the I-91 corridor as this storm sweeps through, especially in elevated areas.

Of course, after this Winter, we also have to talk about SNOW once again.

While it will be a non-issue for 98% of us, the following peaks in eastern SWNH and northern CMass could see patchy coatings of wet snow up to an inch if heavier cells combine to drag down enough cold air:

BEST CHANCE FOR MAY 30TH SNOW COATINGS
1.Mount Monadnock – 3,165 feet (Jaffrey NH)
2.Osgood Hill – 2,238 feet (Nelson NH)
3.Pitcher Mountain – 2,153 feet (Stoddard NH)
4.Jackson & Healey Hills 2,061 (Marlow NH)
5.Mount Wachusett – 2,006 feet (Princeton MA)
6.Mount Watatic – 1,835 feet (Ashburnham MA)

The timing of any mix with or change to wet snow in those areas is between 6-10am Saturday morning.

High temps will be cool, only in the mid 40s to mid 50s, and by end of the day winds will be slackening but still gusty to 25mph or so with an isolated showers, potential sunny breaks, and then isolated patchy frost in northern MA, SVT and SWNH Saturday night with cold lows in the mid 30s to mid 40s before we rebound for Sunday through next week.

Have a great night!
