EARLY BLACK ICE CONCERNS GIVE WAY TO MILDER TEMPS THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH A FEW SHOWERS OR RUMBLE OF THUNDER OVERNIGHT… MUCH WARMER MONDAY AND TUESDAY, AND POSSIBLY WEDNESDAY…

Good morning folks, our seasonal change is at hand! While I do we think we have more March-type cold and a potential snowstorm still in the tank for the third week of the month, milder temps are on the way, starting with a slow rise into the 40s today under mostly cloudy skies.

Any morning patchy fog or drizzle (and any of those freezing varieties) is on the wane, and we’ll all get above freezing for this afternoon and start lifting into a mild surge that will begin more in earnest tomorrow/Sunday, and conclude by Wednesday at the earliest, and what looks to be for certain by Thursday.

For tonight, lows will hang around 40º or so as clouds thicken and a frontal boundary pushes east through the region, bringing some rain showers with a low chance at brief thunder, given that the front will be weakening as it passes through. Rain should mostly move through during the early pre-dawn hours of Sunday morning.

For Sunday, we start off with clouds, but sunshine will develop and so will southerly flow, buoying us up well into the 50s for most of us (some in SVT may hang in the upper 40s, whereas Hartford CT may break 60º!).

Lows will dip into the low to mid 30s Sunday night as we clear, and then we’ll surging into the mid 50s to low 60s Monday with highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s by Tuesday under sunny skies – Spring-Fantasizers rejoice! Our cold bones will smile!

Wednesday is going to be a tricky day to figure out temperature-wise, given that a back door cold front may bifurcate the region with cooler temps in northern or northeastern areas, and warmer southwest, but it does hold the potential to be another day like Tuesday.

By Thursday, clouds will thicken as a strong cold front presses into the region with rain showers by late morning into mid-day, followed by a showery afternoon that may end as a brief period of snow in the high terrain of the Berkshires and western hilltowns toward evening.

It looks gusty ahead of the front as well, with southerly gusts coming up to 30mph in the morning before the front passes through.

Highs will reach the mid 40s to low 50s, followed by cold lows in the upper teens to mid 20s with black ice forming at night and into early Friday morning.

Friday looks much cooler with highs in the 30s to low 40s, but at least fair weather will be featured.

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–Mostly cloudy today with early morning patchy fog, freezing drizzle or black ice abating before noon
–Milder temps with southwest flow push into the mid to upper 40s as snow pack starts to melt through mid-week
–Clouds thicken tonight with an incoming front that will bring some rain showers, and possibly a rumble of thunder as it weakens while tracking east
–Lows in the low 40s with patchy fog possible
–After early morning clouds, sunshine should develop with highs in the upper 40s to upper 50s, lows near freezing
–Monday and Tuesday feature sunny skies with warming highs into the mid 50s to low 60s Monday, and then the upper 50s to mid 60s by Tuesday!
–Lows will stay above freezing both nights, so melting will become more rapid, and some minor river flooding is possible by mid week
–Wednesday is a mixed day temperature-wise as a back door cold front may try to push cooler air into northern and eastern areas
–For now, it looks quite mild like early week, but I will have to update this as we get closer
–By Thursday, another cold front will track into the area, with rain by mid-day, possibly changing to snow in the hilltowns as it departs
–Highs will reach the mid 40s to low 50s Thursday with southerly wind gusts ahead of the front in the morning
–Cold lows Thursday night dip into the upper teens to mid 20s with highs on Friday in the 30s to low 40s with partly sunny skies
