SNOW SHOWERS THIS MORNING IN NORTHWEST & SVT WITH WIND ADVISORIES CONTINUING FOR THE HIGH TERRAIN OF WMASS & CMASS… WESTERLY GUSTS UP TO 50MPH POSSIBLE BY THIS AFTERNOON…

Good morning folks, let me know if you saw any snow accumulation overnight, or (if you live mostly in the northwestern MA into SVT region) if you are seeing snow this morning.

Additional light accumulations are possible in far northwest MA and SVT this morning, but otherwise snow showers will wind down by noon or so, while the rest of us in the valley south and east break into a partly to mostly sunny day.

Today’s big weather news is that westerly gusts of 30-50mph will be developing by later morning and especially in the afternoon as a low level jet streak swings overhead and as highs reach the low 30s to low 40s.

Gusts are already hitting speeds of 30mph in the Berkshires and southwest VT, and up to 52mph out in central and western NY and that’s coming east through the greater WMass region today.

For tonight, it’ll still be breezy but gusts should tamp down to 20-35mph with lows in the upper teens to mid 20s with wind chills down to the single digits in far northwest MA and SVT overnight.

By Sunday, some initial warm advection ahead of our incoming Monday storm system may produce some scattered snow or mixed showers Sunday morning west of I-91 in CT, MA and VT, but otherwise we’ll have a mostly cloudy day with highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s, with clouds thickening up in the evening.

Lows will dip to the 30s, and rain showers will start tracking south to north into our region around or after midnight as a Great Lakes late-winter blizzard cranks up well to our northwest.

Showers will become heavier, and we may see a first pulse of heavy rain and downpours between about 4-8am on early Monday morning, which would slow the commute with some ponding possible and lowered visibility, so keep that in mind.

Highs on Monday will spike well into the 50s and may even reach 60º by the afternoon, and we’ll see periods of showers throughout the day with southerly breezes picking up and gusting to 30mph or so into the afternoon.

It is Monday night into the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday morning that the peak of the storm will hit with strong gusts of 30-50mph and heavy rain at times, with thunder possible as strong southerly flow pushes rainfall from south to north along the incoming and east side of the storm’s cold front.

This front will sweep the region by Tuesday morning, and we’ll start to dry out with westerly wind gusts of 25-40mph possible by later Tuesday.

Highs on Tuesday will hang in the 30s but partly sunny skies will develop behind the storm, and we’ll enjoy a fair weather period from Tuesday through Friday with Wednesday being the coldest day of that stretch, with unseasonably cold highs only in the 30s, and lows in the upper teens to 20s.

By late week we’ll rebound into the 40s for highs and 20s for lows with no winter storms in sight.

Have a great day!
