MONDAY IS LOOKING TROPICALLY HUMID AND QUITE WET WITH PERIODS OF SHOWERS, DOWNPOURS AND THUNDERSTORMS… A FEW SUNDAY AFTERNOON SHOWERS POSSIBLE, BUT OTHERWISE WARM / HUMID / DRY

Good morning folks, I know there’s folks that love this level of humidity, but this writer is not one of them. It’s like meteorological Diazepam or something, it just kinda knocks me down into a not unsubstantial stupor and a state of slow-down. Am I the only one? Am I wrong for being ready for Autumn? Can you please go pick up some dry air from the corner store and bring it over to my place? #ThanksInAdvance #JustLeaveItByTheFrontDoor

As for our weather, we’ve got a humid, warm, and mostly cloudy Sunday on tap as the cloud deck from surface low pressure to our southwest streams northeast into our region.

Highs will reach the mid 70s to mid 80s, and a few showers are possible by later this afternoon and evening. Lows will be in the 60s.

During tonight and Monday, our surface low will run northeast through the eastern Great Lakes and up the St. Lawrence River Valley in southeast Canada ahead of an incoming deep upper trough. These features will produce a strong surface cold front which will sweep through the greater WMass region by Monday night, setting us up for a pretty nice-looking Tuesday.

However, before we get to Tuesday, we gotta move through what looks like a pretty soggy Monday with periods of showers moving in after midnight into the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning, and then picking up as the day wears on.

Highs will reach well into the 70s on Monday with morning showers and some downpours, and possibly thunder. But by afternoon and early evening, that appears to be when the best chance for an isolated strong to severe thunderstorm would be possible, along with periods of showers and downpours.

For now, the heaviest rainfall capable of producing street flooding and even an isolated flash flooding instance is likely in the southern halves of WMass and CMass down into CT, but that could shift as we all know.

Some gusty southwest winds are also possible as a level jet passes overhead, the winds from which could get mixed down with heavier downpours providing for some squally cells.

Showers quit Monday night, the cold front comes through, and we’ll dry out for a day with lows in the upper 50s to mid 60s, and highs on our mostly-sunny Tuesday reaching the mid 70s to low 80s with a brief reprieve from the muggi-logical onslaught.

Once we reach the mid to late week period, even into next weekend, all bets are off for dry weather as humidity returns and so does a pattern that will set the stage for unstable afternoons at peak heating with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms possible each day. Temps will be seasonably warm in the upper 70s to mid 80s through much of that upcoming period.

Have a great day!

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–Humidity continues to hold or slowly increase today under mostly cloudy skies
–Highs reach the mid 70s to mid 80s, with lows in the 60s
–A few showers are expected this evening and tonight, especially pre-dawn hours
–By Monday morning and through the day into the evening, periods of showers, downpours and even some thunderstorms are expected
–Highs will be mostly well into the 70s with tropical humidity and dewpoints in the low to mid 70s
–This will foster heavy rain at times, and I can’t rule out a strong to severe t-storm or two somewhere in the region
–Some southwest wind gusts to 25mph are also possible
–All activity should wind down before midnight Monday as a cold front sweeps thru
–Lows will drop down to either side of 60º Monday night as drier air works into the region and showers quit
–Tuesday looks fairly nice with mostly sunny skies, a few showers possible in the afternoon, with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s
–Thereafter, the mid-week through late-week period and into the weekend looks to become humid again with potential for afternoon showers or t-storms each day
–High temps will be warm, mostly in the upper 70s to mid 80s during this period
