RAIN DEVELOPS BY THIS AFTERNOON… ENDING AS A MIX WITH SLEET AND/OR SNOW OVERNIGHT INTO EARLY MONDAY MORNING WELL NORTH OF THE PIKE WITH COLD AND RAW MONDAY, SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS

Good morning folks, I hope you slept well overnight and that you’ve got soup or stew plans for today, as we’re kicking off the day with overcast skies which will remain that way through today and likely through much of tomorrow as rain is on the way by this afternoon, lasting through the evening.

A cold frontal boundary will sag south through the day out of central/northern New England and track towards southern New England which will help focus the development of periods of rainfall to become steadier by early to mid afternoon, after some scattered showers late morning into early afternoon.

Highs will reach the low 40s to 50º range from north to south, and rain may fall heavily at times by later afternoon and especially this evening in southern parts of WMass and CMass down into northern CT.

As colder air continues to sag south with the front, some sleet pellets may mix in along and north of the Rt. 2 corridor tonight into the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s.

Lastly in terms of the frontal boundary impacts, secondary low pressure will develop over northeast PA and southeast NY tracking east along the boundary to our south which probably will provide a final pull of cold air south into MA, CT and RI and a brief flexing of the precip shield, which may produce a period of snow during the Monday morning commute along and south of the Pike, so something to watch for when you’re heading out tomorrow morning, especially east of the I-91 corridor where the highest chance of early-morning mix to snow resides.

Monday then looks cold and raw with highs mostly in the 30s for a day, and with an upper level disturbance passing over the region, when it meets moist northeast wind that could help develop more scattered snow showers in the greater WMass region and I can’t rule out some light wet snow accumulations scattered about, especially at elevation. Lows will dip into the 20s as everything cams down Monday night with high pressure building back into the region.

Tuesday through Thursday looks to feature partly to mostly sunny skies with highs in the 40s to low 50s, with a few snow showers possible Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

It is the Thursday night into Friday period which may feature another Clipper system in this east-southeastward-tracking flow pattern, and that could produce steadier rainfall into early Friday with some snow mix in elevated/northern areas.

Have a great day and enjoy your soups and stews!

–Bulk of steadier rainfall moves into the region by early to mid afternoon
–Highs will reach the mid 40s to low 50s
–Heaviest rain sets up along and south of the Pike into tonight with lows in the upper 20s to mid 30s
–Colder air works in from north introducing some sleet mix in northern areas
–Low pressure tracks along the sagging-south cold front in the pre-dawn hours of Monday and reinvigorates the precip shield
–As rain/sleet ends and sags south, this may flip us to snow along and south of the Pike in southeast WMass, CMass and northeast CT
–Another upper disturbance may help develop more snow showers, some heavier by Monday afternoon, light accumulations at elevation possible
–Highs Monday freezing to 40º, lows low to mid 20s
–Tuesday and Wednesday look great, partly to mostly sunny, fair weather, highs I the 40s to low 50s, with some snow showers possible Wednesday night
