EXTREME COLD WARNINGS CONTINUE FOR TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY… SNOW CONSOLIDATES INTO FAR EASTERN WMASS, ALL OF CMASS, AND NORTHEAST CT... WIND PICKS UP LATER THIS MORNING, TEMPS DROP...

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–Aside from the Taconics, SVT and far northwest MA, snow is mostly done for WMass except for transient snow showers or flurries
–The exception is far eastern Franklin, Hampshire and especially far eastern Hampden County, into CMass and northeast CT
–Snow will fall moderately there, and heavy at times and continue to accumulate this morning
–Snow consolidates into northeast CT and CMass toward mid-day, and in those areas (southeast WMass, CMass, and NE.CT) 3-6” will likely accumulate
–Northwest wind gusts are already reaching 50mph are into the Berkshires
–Those winds will track east as the Arctic front swings through the region
–High temps will be realized this morning (teens to 20s) and will fall during the day
–Snow will blow and drift today and tonight, causing brief visibility issues when traveling
–Wind chill readings will fall to below zero everywhere by this early evening
–Northwest gusts of 25-45mph will continue overnight and drive wind chills down to -30º in spots, with low temps in the -12º to low positive single digits range
–Sunday is frigid, highs in the single digits to mid teens, breezy, wind chills below zero at times, but sunnier, lows either side of 0º
–Fair weather and milder in the 20s to eventually low 30s for next week, with a shot at some snow showers Tuesday night along and north of Rt. 2

YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
Good morning folks, we certainly got some pretty-up-the-place type snow overnight with many folks reporting 1-3”, and heavy snow continues in far eastern parts of WMass down into Tolland County, CT, as well as in Worcester County MA and Windham County CT where snow will consolidate this morning as we’ve mostly tapered off west of there.

This drying trend in much of WMass, northwestern half of CT, and SVT/SWNH will continue into mid-day, though some snow showers are still possible.

Snow in northeast CT, CMass and far eastern WMass will taper off by late morning to mid afternoon from west to east and 3-6” is expected in those areas, maybe a little more in a few spots.

The main story going forward will be the wind that is picking up already in the Berkshires and SVT, gusting to 50mph and that represents the Arctic front that is pushing through the region this morning form west to east.

Our high temps will essentially be what we’ve got now, and temps will fall during the day after a brief/slight rise in the teens to low 20s.

By evening, temps should be in the single digits to low teens and continuing to fall, with wind chill readings below zero everywhere, so bundle up if you are heading out.

Extreme Cold Warnings continue across the region, and wind chills with northwest gusts of 25-45mph tonight will drop to as low as -30º in spots, so be sure to cover up any exposed skin as the Arctic hammer drops one more (and last?) time this most wintry Winter season.

Lows will drop to as low as about -12º in the high terrain and either side of 0º in the valley and points east and south, and it will be completely frigid by early Sunday morning.

Sunday is a breezy, frigid, sunny day with highs in the single digits to mid teens, with lows either side of 0º as the wind slackens and the worst of this short-lived Arctic blast pulls east and away.

Next week looks more tolerable with partly to mostly sunny skies, and highs int eh upper teens to 20s Monday, then pushing well into the 20s to low 30s for highs the rest of the week with mostly fair weather expected.

A weak system my pass north of us and bring some snow showers to areas along and north of the Rt. 2 corridor, but otherwise, we’ve got pretty smooth sailing to look forward to after the Arctic Hammah!

Have a great day, and stay warm!
