PLEASANT END TO THE WEEKEND.. SOME HAZE PERSISTS DUE TO CANADIAN WILDFIRES… SUNNY SKIES & FAIR WEATHER CONTINUE THROUGH MUCH OF THE UPCOMING WEEK AS TEMPS WARM… HEAT WAVE TUE-THURS
Good morning folks, a large 1022-millibar high pressure system is swinging southeast through the eastern Great Lakes and southern Canada into and through New England today and tomorrow, which will be responsible for our sunny end to the weekend and the start of our next work week, but will also serve as the cause for our next heat wave Tuesday through Thursday as said high pressure positions south of us, driving warming, southwest flow into New England.
For today, we do have some haze in the skies due to the influence of Canadian wildfire smoke that has drifted south with the high, and that has also raised the air quality index a bit, so very sensitive folks might have some issue with air quality today, despite there being no posted Air Quality Alerts by any of southern New England’s DEP offices (DEP = Dept. of Environmental Protection).
Aside from that, it will be a lovely summah day with highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s under sunny skies with a light wind, followed by crisp lows in the mid to upper 50s under mostly clear skies.
Monday is a repeat of today, though a bit warmer, with highs well into the 80s under mostly sunny skies. Lows will drop into the low to mid 60s.
High pressure will be sailing south of us by Tuesday, and that will strengthen southwest flow into New England, driving high temps substantially higher, landing in the mid 80s (high terrain) to mid 90s (valley) under sunny skies with heat indices pushing into the upper 90s to near 100º as humidity increases as well.
This will likely prompt the hoisting of Heat Advisories by the NWS for at least Tuesday and Wednesday, if not into Thursday. I do not think we will see Extreme Heat Warning criteria, and hopefully that holds true.
Tuesday night lows will hang in the mid 60s to mid 70s as we set up for Wednesday, which will be the peak of heat and humidity for this upcoming hot stretch.
Wednesday once again reaches the mid 80s to mid 90s under sunny skies, with some upper 90s possible, followed by highs in the low 80s to low 90s by Thursday as hints of an upper trough forming over Quebec start to lean on our hot pattern from the north.
After this long fair weather stretch through (I believe) Thursday, the upper trough will assert more influence over us by Friday into next weekend when cooler but still quite warm / seasonable temps resume with highs in the 80s, along with a chance at some showery activity.
Have a great day and rest of your weekend!
