COOLER TODAY, SUNNY START, THEN AFTERNOON SCATTERED SHOWERS WITH SMALL HAIL OR THUNDER POSSIBLE… MONDAY IS GORGEOUS, THEN WARMER TUESDAY, HEAT BY WEDNESDAY, HUMIDITY BY THURSDAY
Good morning everybody, here we are still breathing, typing, moving, eating, sleeping, and being human. It’s quite a thing that happened in this cosmic corner, and the interface of Earth and Space is Weather, so let’s jump into talking about our afternoon showers and an increasing chance at a heat wave for the second half of the upcoming work week.
For today, we start off with a lovely morning of sunshine, westerly breezes, and cooler / drier conditions which will result in high temps rising into the 70s to 80º.
Our sunny start, however, will conclude with clouds (which have already arrived in parts of the Berkshires & SVT) by mid-day into the afternoon as an upper level system dives south along the western edge of our departing upper trough.
This wave has cold air aloft associated with it, and as it dives north to south, it will produce scattered showers into our region, and some may be heavier, contain thunder or even small hail as they drop through.
Severe weather is not expected this afternoon, and once that activity wanes between 4-9pm (lasting longest in central MA) a calm night will arrive with cool lows dipping into the mid 40s to low 50s overnight.
Monday is about as perfect a June day as you’ll fine, the way it looks now, with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s under sunny skies on a light northeast wind with low humidity. Be sure to get out and enjoy it, even for 5 minutes! Lows will again dip into the mid 40s to low 50s under clear skies as high pressure tracks north to south through our region.
By Tuesday with high pressure positioned south of us, and given its clockwise flow, we’ll be placed within a southwesterly, warming flow of air, and as such highs will soar well into the 80s under mostly sunny skies. Lows will respond, hanging in the upper 50s to low 60s overnight.
By Wednesday through at least Saturday, the heat will flex as an upper level ridge joins the party with our surface high to our south and pushes high temps into the mid 80s to low 90s through the period, with lows generally in the upper 50s to mid 60s.
Wednesday looks sunny, but by any time on Thursday, Friday or Saturday we could see some isolated to scattered showers at times, though no washouts are expected.
In addition, humidity will increase on Thursday as dewpoints climb into the 60s to near 70º at times, so it’ll be an uncomfortable end to the week as a muggy feel develops within the context of another possible low-level heat wave as low 90s are possible each day in the central and lower Pioneer Valley, such that Heat Advisories may need hoisting.
I hope you have a great day!

― Joseph CampbellYOUR NUTSHELL:
–A beautiful, cooler, and drier start to our Sunday morning with mostly sunny skies
–Scattered showers will develop to our north and drop south into our region by this afternoon
–Some showers may be heavier, and some may contain thunder and/or small hail
–Highs reach the 70s to low 80 with westerly gusts up to 25mph, followed by lows either side of 50º under partly cloudy skies
–Monday is the pick of the week if you ask me, with high pressure building through, sunshine, and highs in the 75-80º range
–Lows again bottom out to either side of 50º under clear skies
–High pressure that pushes overhead Monday continues to track south by Tuesday, which sets up southerly warm flows into our region
–Highs Tuesday reach well into the 80s under sunny skies with low humidity, and lows dipping to either side of 60º
–By Wednesday, high pressure flexes and an upper ridge approaches, pushing our highs into the mid 80s to low 90s which likely lasts through late week and possibly into the weekend
–Wednesday should feature sunny skies with fairly low humidity, and mild lows in the low to mid 60s
–By Thursday a frontal boundary will be nearby and some scattered showers are possible with very warm to hot temps and an increase in humidity
–Dewpoints climb into the 60s late week, so it will feel more uncomfortable
–A heat wave is possible Wednesday through Saturday
