MOSTLY SUNNY WEEKEND AHEAD, COLD TODAY WITH A FEW SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE LATE… MILDER SUNDAY INTO MONDAY WITH FAIR WEATHER… PERIODS OF SHOWERS TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...

Good morning folks, we’ve reached a period of fair weather that will stretch from today through Monday with cold temps today, and increasing temps through Monday, that just keep going up Tuesday and Wednesday as increasingly unsettled conditions move in by mid-week.

We’ve got a massive high pressure cell in the center of the country pushing east through the Ohio Valley today into tonight and off of the Mid-Atlantic coastline by Sunday.

Air flows clockwise around high pressure, and so with the high west of us, this will direct northwest gusts into the region today, reaching speeds of 20-30mph by this afternoon. Highs will hang in the 30s under mostly sunny skies today, so it’ll be cold and blustery at times.

In fact, we may also see a few snow showers by late afternoon and early evening which would add to the wintry feel (that almost zero people want after this Winter!). There could be a few high terrain light dustings, but otherwise we’ll clear later tonight with lows in the upper teens to mid 20s.

Sunday is the pick of the week with high pressure south of us driving in milder air to the region over the next several days. Highs will reach the 40s to end the weekend under mostly sunny skies with southwest gusts up to 25mph at times. Lows will drop into the low to mid 30s.

Monday will start to see more clouds working into the region due to a frontal boundary with moisture gathering to our west, but it should still be partly sunny on average with highs in the 50s, and temps’ll keep going up through mid-week!

Clouds build Monday night and we’ll see some scattered showers on Tuesday as a frontal boundary presses into our area with ANOTHER high pressure system now positioning into south-central Canada.

The squeeze play and clash of air masses between colder Canadian high pressure cell and our warmer western Atlantic high pressure cell will produce a frontal boundary along which waves of low pressure will develop between Tuesday and Friday.

This means that while temps surge into the 60s Tuesday, and possibly the low 70s by Wednesday, that pre-cold-frontal zone we’ll be in will be showery at times.

Not only that, but as the front returns as a cold front by Thursday, we will see colder air work back into the region with highs in the 40s late week, and lows in the 30s at night, during which time we may see some snow showers develop in the high terrain.

As you can tell, we’ve got lots of seesaw weather ahead as we head into April, and I will be sure to keep you updated throughout.

Have a great day!

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–High pressure to our west drives northwest gusts of 20-30mph later today
–Highs will only climb into the 30s after a very cold start in the teens/20s
–Mostly sunny skies expected, though some clouds may develop late with a few snow showers passing through either side of 6pm
–Breezy tonight, lows in the upper teens to mid 20s
–High pressure positions south of us by Sunday, and drives southwest gusts 15-25mph at times with highs in the 40s and lows in the low to mid 30s
–Monday ends our streak of fair weather with highs in the 50s under partly sunny skies as a front starts to approach by Monday night into Tuesday
–This front that will form between warmer air southeast and colder air northwest will develop periods of showers in our region by Tuesday morning
–As waves move along this front and undulate it back and forth, we’ll have periods of unsettled weather through the week
–Warmer temps well into the 60s by Tuesday, and possibly the low 70s by Wednesday will be replaced by cooler temps by late week with 40s for highs
–I can’t even rule out some snow showers early Thursday or early Friday morning
