CLOUDY & COOLING MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND w/ RAIN TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT… SHOWERS LINGER MONDAY MORNING, THEN WARMTH BUILDS w/ SUNNY BREAKS BY MONDAY AFTERNOON… WARMER TUES/WED
Good morning folks, well I wish I had better news for you all for this Memorial Day Weekend but aside from what I’d call a decent shot by later Monday afternoon, I’d say we’re likely going to be making soup and chilling inside rather than grilling and hanging outside on this gateway-to-summer holiday.
For today, we’re cloudy and we already have rain falling – up in the sky. It’s evaporating before it reaches the ground in a process called “virga”, and with strong / dry high pressure positioned to our northeast, that evaporation will continue en masse into at least the early to mid-afternoon (and much of if not all the afternoon from the valley points east).
However, sometime between 3-6pm (after our highs peak in the upper 50s to mid 60s), our warm frontal boundary and its attendant shower shield will moisten up the atmosphere enough to allow rain to reach the ground in northwest CT and southwest MA. The rain shield will then push northeast from there this early evening towards midnight.
Southeasterly breezes will start to develop tonight as well as the showers set into the region, and lows will drop into the 40s.
By Sunday morning, we will be waking up to a stratiform rainstorm for our Sunday and temps will not rise much, likely hanging in the upper 40s to low 50s for most of us, with some mid 40s highs in SVT, and perhaps some mid 50s highs in parts of northern CT.
Rainy Day, Dream Away, as Jimi Hendrix used to day.
I can tell you for this writer I plan on having 3 soup cauldrons on the simmer, one miso soup, one chicken rice and veg, and then another that I haven’t decided on yet, but I’ll post pics tomorrow at some point!
Perhaps whenever I’m done with this weather thing maybe I’ll just become a soup purveyor and feed people, that could make me happy.
But I digress into my soupy Sunday dreams!
Anyway, you get the picture: raw, rainy, and downright cold for late May for our Sunday, a good day for a wood fire if you can muster one up.
Rain will continue to into Sunday night and start to taper to showers late with lows in the 40s, which will then rise towards 50º or so by Monday morning behind our warm frontal passage.
By Memorial Monday, a final round of showers may swing through in the morning, but then I think we will continue to warm into the low to mid 70s, and drying on westerly flow will push into the region by afternoon, which should bust us out into a partly sunny period for the second half of the day, that’s the hope for now.
You’re grilling outside in the cool cloudiness of today before dinner, or you’re doing it in the hopefully warmer partly-sunniness of Monday afternoon — those are your GrillWindows™.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, high pressure positions south of us and drives warmth into the region with sunshine as highs climb into the upper 70s to mid 80s both days, prior to more showers Wednesday night.
This shower activity will likely precede a cool down into the late week period, but more like 60s and 70s for highs vs. the very chilly conditions that are on the way this weekend.
I hope you have a great day!
