WARMER, LOVELY, BREEZY LATER TODAY TO WRAP UP OUR WEEKEND… HEAVY RAIN, THUNDER AND WIND MOVE THROUGH EARLY MONDAY MORNING...
Good morning folks, the upper ridge that’s been cresting over our region and sitting on us like a mother hen is getting ready to fly the coop and vamoose eastward into the western Atlantic.
As this occurs, it’ll make way for an incoming, sharp cold frontal boundary, and between the two for today, we’ll see strong southerly flow, warming us into the 65-70º range and pushing gusts up over 20mph at times under mostly sunny skies.
We’ll cloud up later in the day, and especially tonight as the front draw closer. By or just after midnight we could see some first showers move into the greater WMass region as lows hang in the 50s.
Sometime between 4-8am from Berkshires to Worcester we should see showers should pick up sharply with heavy downpours, thunder, and potential for strong wind gusts mixing into the overall rain pattern with the front.
A few of the stronger cells may produce some isolated outages or even a bit of damage ahead of the front, which will be tracking southwest to northeast.
I would give yourself extra time for your early morning commute if you’re hitting the road for work tomorrow morning, as visibility will be low and it could be a bit wild in spots.
This front is a fast mover, and we should see improvements by early to mid afternoon as showers abate by that point, and then westerly winds will gust up to 25mph behind the front.
Highs Monday should reach the low to mid 60s, with lows dropping into the low to mid 40s with a few showers possible.
Tuesday looks like the pick of the week for a sunshine/warmth combo, with highs reaching the low to mid 60s under mostly sunny skies before clouds increase again at night as a second frontal system pushes east towards New England, draped off of low pressure back over the Ohio Valley.
Lows will drop into the 40s as clouds thicken and showers develop late at night into Wednesday. While I don’t think the showers will be as heavy, they may last longer on Wednesday and move through in a slower and/or scattered setup vs. the sharp “fine line of convection” we should see tomorrow.
Highs will climb into the upper 50s to mid 60s Wednesday with showers abating at night as lows drop to either side of 40º.
The late week period looks partly sunny at the moment as an upper trough swings through the region, which should induce northwest flow and highs in the mid to upper 50s with lows in the 30s during that timeframe.
Have a great rest of your weekend!
