RAINY, RAW, AND COOL SUNDAY ARRIVES… RAIN TAPERS BY LATE AFTERNOON OR EARLY EVENING WITH ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SHOWERS OVERNIGHT WITH PATCHY FOG / DRIZZLE… MORE RAIN MONDAY AM...

Good morning folks, I guess the bright spot to this gray Sunday is that we really do need this solid drink of stratiform-y rain that we can expect through Monday morning. It’s really the best kind of rainfall, one that dons the moniker of “stratiform”, which means that it more or less falls in a steadier, light to moderate intensity vs. heavy downpours. The latter type can cause runoff or flash flooding, whereas today’s type slowly soaks into the ground which I expect will continue into this afternoon.

It will be raw, cool, rainy, and breezy in the high terrain with highs in the mid 40s to low 50s, and easterly gusts of 15-30mph, especially at elevation as cool, onshore flow is pushed up and into the hills and mountains.

I do expect a tapering down of rainfall and intensity by later afternoon into the evening, as coverage becomes more isolated to scattered with patchy drizzle and/or fog possible into the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning.

Lows will hang in the 40s, but start to rise towards dawn as our actual warm front pushes a final round of steadier, heavier rainfall into the region for Monday morning, which looks wet at the moment.

By Monday late morning to early afternoon, the back side of that precip shield should swing through the greater WMass region, and clear to the east, providing for warming high temps into the upper 60s to mid 70s behind the front. It should also become drier, and brighter, and I do expect at least some partial sunshine as the afternoon wears on, especially the further west you go in our region.

We may even get a sweet sunset, so here’s hoping for that!

Monday night is milder, and possibly milder than today’s high temps, settling down into the low to mid 50s.

Tuesday and Wednesday feature sunnier skies, higher pressure moving in from the west and south, and warmer temps with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s on Tuesday, with a peak in warmth for Wednesday as highs soar into the upper 70s to mid 80s as we look towards a 15-hour day by end of the week! Lows will dip into the 50s to near 60º range.

By later in the week, a round of showers is possible by Thursday as cooler air advects back into the region as a weak wave dives southeast into Maine around the eastern flank of a cooler high pressure cell positioned to our northwest in eastern Ontario and western Quebec.

This should tamp our temps down somewhere to either side of 70º for highs Thursday through the weekend, but I will refine that as we get closer. Right now, I don’t see any big rainy periods for next weekend.

I am off to journal a bit and enjoy some coffee, and then I have big soup-making plans, and assuming I follow through I will post pics later, and of course will update you on today’s weather by sometime in the early afternoon, and again in the early evening as well.

Have a great day and check your Nutshell and Celestials below!
