FULL BLUE MOON TONIGHT… WIND GUSTS NOT LOOKING AS POTENT THIS MORN, BUT WILL BE OUR MAIN IMPACT ROUGHLY LATER MORNING INTO EARLY/MID AFTERNOON… MOST SHOWERS END BY EARLY PM...
Good morning folks, it’s already snowing up on Stratton Mountain in southeast VT, and I would imagine the same could be said for Mt. Snow and possibly Mt. Monadnock as our final swipe of precipitation is tracking south and then southeast and out of here by early afternoon.
In looking the low-level lapse rates this morning, they’re not looking very steep, so I think northerly gusts in a range of 25-40mph should do it for most of us in the greater WMass region, with potential for over 40mph in SWNH, CMass, and far northeast CT.
The main window for the strongest gusts for today is about 10am to 2pm, and any showers or high terrain snow will be tracking away from our region by early afternoon.
Highs will only reach the upper 40s to upper 50s with isolated showers at times and breezy conditions as gusts tamp down to 15-30mph at times later this afternoon and early evening.
Hopefully we will see some sunny breaks as well late in the afternoon, with sunny breaks possible in far western Berkshires and Litchfield County earlier this morning before clouds thicken more.
We have our Full Blue Moon rising at 8:13pm in the southeast sky, which is something to look forward to – 2 full moons in one month!
Lows will drop into the mid 30s to low 40s as winds continue to slacken, and isolated frost will be possible in southern VT down into far northwest MA near the VT border.
Sunday starts off lovely with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 60s to low 70s but now it looks like our next upper energy will swing through from south to north in the afternoon and evening, generating scattered showers with some downpours or a clap of thunder possible. Scattered showers continue Sunday night with lows in the 45-50º range.
Monday through Wednesday should sit in this similar temperature regime as Sunday: mid 60s to low 70s for highs, 45-50º for lows, and with scattered shower activity each afternoon through Tuesday as our upper low continues to sit around Atlantic Canada and keep colder air aloft, which will cause air to rise and scattered instability showers to form.
Wednesday is an uncertain transition day in terms of rainfall, but no washouts are expected right now, and by late week we can expect an upper ridge well south of us to help produce a warming flow into our region with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s Thursday followed by temps in the 80s for Friday before another cold front brings showers by Saturday and cools us back down to more seasonable levels thereafter.
Have a great day!

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–Scattered areas of showers will track south and southeast thru the region this morning
–These will taper to isolated activity by mid afternoon going forward
–It’s already snowing in the peaks of SVT and other high mountains near the MA border
–As precip fills in over very high terrain areas, additional snow may mix there or even coat other peaks in spots, perhaps up to an inch
–Northerly gusts should continue to develop into the mid to late morning and early afternoon
–Generally, gusts go as high as 25-40mph along the CT River Valley and points westward, and potentially over 40mph eastward into CMass, SWNH and NE.CT
–Highs only reach the upper 40s to upper 50s
–Some sunny breaks are possible toward the end of the day
–Our Full Blue May Moon rises at 8:13pm in the southeast tonight, so look for it!
–Lows will drop into the mid 30s to low 40s with patchy isolated frost in SVT and far northwest MA
–Sunday starts off dry with sunshine as highs rebound into the mid 60s to low 70s, but another upper disturbance drops down the west side of our upper trough
–This will produce more instability aloft, and scattered showers and a few downpours will track through the region later afternoon and overnight
–Lows will drop to the 45-50º range
–More showers are possible Monday and Tuesday afternoon as the trough lingers around Atlantic Canada
–Highs both days will be in the 65-70º range with a mix of sun and clouds, followed by lows in the 45-50º range
–Wednesday is a transition period that is a bit uncertain regarding one final wave that, whatever its impacts for us here in the WMass region (or not), warmer conditions follow for late week
–It looks sunshine will develop and highs should reach the 80s by Friday as an upper ridge tries to flex northward up the eastern seaboard
