A MODERATE SNOW STORM WITH PLOWABLE SNOW IS LOOKING PRETTY LIKELY FOR TUESDAY FOR THE GREATER WMASS REGION… SNOW AND RAIN TODAY WITH A WARM FRONT...

Good morning folks, we have a warm front / cold front combo pushing through the region today and tonight, which is the cause for our clouds this morning. It’s also been snowing overhead, but much of that has not been reaching the ground due to evaporation during descent, a/k/a “virga”.

Please let me know if you saw snow this early morning!

As for the rest of the day, southerly gusts will pick up as low pressure tracks to our northwest, running northeast into northern New England. This will increase the pressure gradient in our region, and draw gusty southerlies of 20-30mph at times through our region. This also means milder air will work northward, and cause highs to peak into the upper 30s to mid 40s: the mildest air will see in probably a week!

As for precipitation, we’ll see today’s main impact of high terrain snow to mix/rain in the central/northern Berkshires, northwest hilltowns, and SVT, with mostly rain in the Pioneer Valley points south into CT and east into CMass/SWNH. The timing will be mostly between 11am and 5pm before the cold front sweeps it all seaward.

For tonight, wind will turn from the south to the west and gust up to 25mph with lows in the mid to upper 20s as we dry out into a sunny-looking Monday.

Highs on Monday should only reach the 30s with northwest winds gusting up to 25mph at times, followed by a cold night with less wind and lows in the teens to low 20s, which will set us up for Tuesday’s expected snowstorm.

Clouds will increase quickly overnight, and we may see our first-onset snow showers by early to mid morning on Tuesday, though timing is subject to change.

As of now, Tuesday is looking like a snowy day as low pressure tracks northeast out of the Tennessee Valley and off the Mid-Atlantic coastline, tracking somewhere between Nantucket and The Benchmark.

This should keep us mostly snow, but if the storm amplifies a bit as it juices up, it could push some milder air up into northern CT or towards the MA/CT state line, causing rain to mix in there and lowering snow totals.

This will be a steadily-moving, progressive system with nothing to lock cold in place to our north, and nothing to slow it down to our east, so it will be out of here by 9pm at night, most likely, and should produce a moderate-level snowfall for many of us.

Again, I am generally thinking 4-8” north of the Pike and 2-5” south of it, but if anything, those numbers could come up a little bit, with some 10” amounts possible in spots.

Highs on Tuesday will reach the low to mid 30s with lows in the teens, so we’ll wake up Wednesday morning to a winter wonderland, the way it looks now!

The mid to late week period looks to feature cold temps with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens to low 20s, along with a reinforcing shot of cold air Thursday which could bring some more snow showers.

Beyond that, we may be looking at a small Alberta Clipper by late Friday into the weekend which could produce more light snow accumulations.

Folks, whatever blankets the ground Tuesday is gonna stick around as the next step-down into Winter settles into the greater WMass region.

Barring the southern stream tracking much faster than expected and then getting pulled way north and introducing warmer air into our region on Tuesday, this is trending towards a moderate snowstorm, first widespread one of the season!

I will keep you updated, of course, throughout all of it, and hope you have a great end to your Sunday… and please check out my 2025 Weather Nut Merch Sale, it ends tomorrow night and I have fun, new designs! Thank you!
