BREEZY AND COLD TODAY IS FOLLOWED BY SNOW AND RAIN SUNDAY, CHANGING TO ALL RAIN… MONDAY’S COLD FRONT LEADS TO A POTENTIALLY MODERATE SNOWSTORM TUES...
Good morning folks, thanks very much yesterday for all of the snow reports, photos, videos, and updates it’s very helpful to paint a picture of what’s happening in the sub-regions of the overall greater WMass region, and even at the intra-town level, which can be substantially different from one end of a town/city to another!
On my ever-growing list of projects, I hope to create a system whereby we establish some basic reporting and photo/video standards (like data needed, file size, dimensions, etc.) and have you submit your reports that auto-populate a graphical Weather Nut Map of our region to better visualize your reports on my upcoming mobile app, or here on the page, or on my website, so please know that’s percolating in my brains.
As for our weather today, the last of the flurries or light snow showers in parts of the southern Berkshires and northwest CT are tracking southeast, and will quit soon enough with northwesterly gusts kicking up to 25mph or so into the afternoon before slackening this evening.
Highs under partly to mostly sunny skies will reach the mid 30s to low 40s with lows tonight bottoming out into the upper teens to mid 20s as clouds increase ahead of our next warm front.
For Sunday, said warm front will be pushing into the region, but early scattered showers will likely fall in the form of snow, and some scattered coatings are possible, especially in the Berkshires, western hilltowns and up into SVT.
By mid-day, temps will be coming up as steadier precipitation moves in so the Pioneer Valley from Greenfield down to Hartford and points east should turn to plain rain while we may see a reinvigoration of accumulating snow in far northwest MA, SVT and SWNH before mixing with and changing to rain late in the day.
Those areas could see another coating to 2” of wet snow before the changeover. Highs will reach the upper 30s to mid 40s and rain will eventually quit by midnight as our progressive low pressure in northern New England pulls a cold front through the region.

Lows will dip into the mid to upper 20s, so do watch out for black ice very early Monday morning.
Monday looks like a blustery day with westerly gusts up to 30mph or so as colder air advects into the region, preventing highs from rising past the low to mid 30s for most of us, with perhaps some upper 30s in the southern valley (Springfield to Hartford area).
It will be sunny, and as wind sits down at night, lows will crash into the mid teens to low 20s which will be one of the coldest nights yet, setting us up for our winter storm on Tuesday afternoon and night.
Clouds should be increasing on Tuesday as it stands now, and I’m still tracking the potential for a moderate to perhaps borderline major snowstorm (if the track lines up “correctly”), with a southern stream storm system tapping Gulf juice and tracking northeast towards the Mid-Atlantic coastline.
This system does seem to be mostly progressive, with nothing to really slow it, curve it, stall it, etc., so the trajectory of the track will be everything in terms of any sort of snow/rain line that we may see in the region.
As of now, I see plenty of cold air to make it an all-snow event on the north, northwest and west side of the system, so if it tracks over The Benchmark (70ºW and 40ºN, or about 80 miles due south of Nantucket), we would likely see a moderate-level snowstorm in the greater WMass region.
There’s still plenty of time for changes, but that’s how it looks for now: a snowstorm will more likely than not impact much of our region, starting sometime Tuesday afternoon, and peaking Tuesday night (the coldest part of the 24-hour day/night cycle), which would bring the plows out.

Beyond that, we remain cold with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens mid to late week as Winter really arrives with the onset of Meteorological Winter (December 1st, which is when my 2025 Weather Nut Holiday Merch Sale ends, btw!), and we may see some lake effect snow showers by Thursday, or even a light Alberta Clipper by Friday.
We’ve entered an active winter pattern from what I can see, with storm signals the following week, so please know I will keep you updated every step of the way!
Have a great day and please check out my cozy merch offerings to keep you warm this winter, or to give as gifts this holiday season – sale ends Monday!
