A FEW SNOW SHOWERS NORTHWEST MA & SVT THIS AFTERNOON, THEN LIGHT SNOW TONIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING, STEADIEST ALONG/SOUTH OF THE RT. 2 CORRIDOR & “HEAVIEST” SOUTH...
Good morning folks, some of us saw a beautiful sunrise today, so if that was you and you took some pics please share below! As for our weather this weekend, we’re definitely going to receive one more wintry hit into early next week to conclude our very anomalous early cold pattern for the first half of December, before milder temps arrive late week.
For today, we’re watching a broad upper low set up over southern Canada, which is guiding a disturbance along its southern flank and will push it east and off of the Mid-Atlantic coast.
As this system hits the water and tracks more to the east, it will strengthen with time and push a lightly-accumulating snow shield over most of southern New England tonight into Sunday morning before the Patriots crush the Bills and clinch the AFC East, whoops!!!
Sorry about that, I let a bit of my football fervor escape onto the screen there, let’s back to the weather!
Highs today will reach the low to mid 30s as clouds increase, and we should see some upslope snow showers form in the central/northern Berkshires, northwest hilltowns and up into SVT with some coatings possible there.
By tonight, our system should push flurries, snow showers and steadier light snow into areas along and south of the Pike first between 9pm and midnight, and then that should spread up towards northern MA overnight, with everything quitting by mid to late morning tomorrow.
Again, this is a very light event, with fluffy snow that you can clear with a broom, and most of us south of the Rt. 2 corridor should see a coating to 2” of snow, and maybe up to 3” in parts of northern CT especially in southern Tolland and Windham Counties.
Lows tonight dip into the teens and highs on Sunday will only reach the 20s before another Arctic cold front swings into the region behind the storm in the afternoon. Westerly winds will gust up to 25mph at times during the night, and as lows drop into the single digits to low teens, wind chills will drop to between -5º and 5º by early Monday morning, so bundle up if you are out late!
Monday highs will reach the low to mid 20s with wind chills in the teens under mostly sunny skies, and by the nighttime some additional snow showers will push into the region on the nose of incoming milder air for the second half of the week.
Fair weather will dominate Tuesday through Thursday with highs near 30º on Tuesday, and then near 40º on Wednesday, and well into the 40s by Thursday!
The Mildening is real, folks!
We’ll clouds up by late week around Friday, and a cold front will likely be pushing rain showers into the region and probably cooling us back down by next weekend.
This incoming mild pattern is not likely to stick around and persist like our cold pattern recently has. Instead, it appears we’ll see alternating bouts of cold and mild air, and if this is the case, that could mean more temperature clashes across the region, which could mean more winter storminess with all precip types in play, so I will keep you updated with what could become a busy back half of December with potential impacts to holiday travel.
Have a great day!
