WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES CONTINUE SATURDAY… SNOW ROUND 1 ENDS, SNOW ROUND 2 BEGINS ROUGHLY 10AM TO 1PM FROM BERKSHIRES TO CMASS… SOME RAIN MIXES IN OR FLIPS OVER SPRINGFIELD SOUTH
Good morning folks, we had a burst of snow overnight from our first shortwave that has trucked on through with snow ending in CMass and northeast CT this early morning period.
Please refer to the Nutshell section below for more details:
YOUR NUTSHELL:
–Our first round of Saturday snow pushes into CMass and NE.CT, and out of here by mid morning
–Many areas have reported 1-5” already, so overall totals by tomorrow morning will likely be more than the widespread 2-5” expected, or on higher end of range
–We’re in a lull, then a second shortwave moves through with more snow, arriving in the Berkshires and SVT around 9am-10am or so, reaching CMass by mid-day or early afternoon
–Temps will come up to the mid 30s in the Springfield to Hartford stretch, points east to Worcester and northeast CT, so rain mix or plain rain is probable by early to mid afternoon, so less accumulation there
–All in all, another coating to 3” is expected for a portion of the greater WMass region including the Berkshires, SVT, SWNH, western hilltowns, Hampshire, Franklin and northern Worcester Counties, with another 2-5” in far NW.Mass and the southern Green Mountains
–Central and eastern Hampden County into southern CMass and north-central and northeast CT more like a coating to an inch with rain mixed in
–Highs upper 20s to mid 30s
–Lows low to mid 20s with fresh snowpack for many
–Sunday starts off dry, and should be mostly cloudy as a coastal storm sets up well south east of us, highs low to mid 30s
–Clouds thicken, light snow arrives westward into the CT River Valley by mid afternoon or so, steadiest in CMass and northeast CT closer to the storm
–Another coating to 3” is expected by late Sunday night, with lows in the teens
–A cold front swings off the coast by Monday with fair weather to replace our weekend snowy, along with colder temps and highs in the upper 20s to low 30s, with lows in the teens
–Tuesday to Tuesday night is the coldest of this upcoming stretch with highs in the teens to near 20º with lows in the single digits
–Wednesday into Thursday will see high pressure positioning south of us, and returning a milder flow as temps return to the mid to upper 20s for highs under sunny skies
–Thursday will feature some rain or snow showers with milder temps well into the 30s before colder air returns late week
The bottom line is that we’ll see a second shortwave and round of snow (with some mix/rain in southern and southeastern areas of our region) push back into the Berkshires, Litchfield Hills and southwest VT by 9am-10am or so, and proceed east through early afternoon.
We’ve already seen roughly 2-5” of snow, and another coating to 3” is on the way for most of us: lower range from Springfield to Worcester south into much of northern CT, and upper range north and west of that Springfield to Worcester stretch, with potential for an additional 2-5” in western Franklin/Hampshire Counties, central and northern Berkshires up into the mountains of SVT.
And if that weren’t enough, our Sunday afternoon and night coastal storm will bring another coating to 2” (up to 3” or so in southern CMass and northeast CT) to our region tomorrow, ending before Monday dawn with a fresh injection of cold Arctic air for Monday through Wednesday.
Tuesday and Tuesday night will be the coldest of this period with highs in the 15-20º range and lows in the single digits.
More snow and rain showers are possible by Thursday.
Have a great day!
