WIND ADVISORIES CONTINUE THIS MORNING FOR THE WMASS HIGH TERRAIN WEST OF I-91… A FEW SNOW SHOWERS POSSIBLE THIS AND TOMORROW MORNING… COLD FRONT BRINGS WIND AND CHILL XMAS NIGHT…

Good morning folks, this is going to be a fairly quick discussion this morning. To start, watch for black ice and slippery conditions, especially in the high terrain and on secondary / tertiary roads. A front has passed and winds are already gusting 25-45mph in the region, and that will continue especially in the Berkshires and western hilltowns with Wind Advisories up there.

Despite a few snow showers north of Rt. 2 this morning, we should be watching a partly to mostly sunny day develop as an upper trough swings east and away from the region allowing for some ridging to build in.

This will cause winds to slacken this evening, with colder temps in the 20s for any holiday evening travel, bottoming out to lows in the teens to low 20s late tonight.

For Christmas Day, a few mixed showers are possible with highs in the mid to upper 30s ahead of an incoming cold front which will cause more wind gusts of 25-40mph to develop for Christmas Night as temps crash yet again, with lows in the single digits to teens and wind chills either side of 0º.

Clouds will increase Friday, and another weaker storm system should track northwest to southeast through the northern Mid-Atlantic and Tri-State area, pushing light accumulating snow into parts of the greater WMass region, especially west of I-91 and from about Pittsfield south through northwest CT and Litchfield County where 1-4” may fall by Saturday morning, with less to the east.

More snow is possible, this isn’t set in stone, but that’s how it looks now and I will update you as to my thoughts as we get closer.

Snow should taper off Saturday afternoon with highs in the 20s and then another storm will set up to our northwest by Sunday afternoon and push some mixed precip into the region by Sunday night which may change to rain, or remain as an icing threat, so I will have to update that piece for you too as we get closer.

Once THAT storm leaves Monday, it will drag another cold front through with more cold temperatures to end 2025 along with blustery and gusty conditions, and potential for another winter storm next Wednesday / Thursday.

Hope you have a great day and I wish safe travels to everybody if you’re headed out and about to be with friends and family.
