MORE LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS WITH PERIODS OF LIGHT / MODERATE SNOW TODAY… ANOTHER COATING TO 3” EXPECTED THEN COLD & BLUSTERY TONIGHT INTO EARLY TUESDAY WITH BLOWING & DRIFTING OF SNOW
Good morning folks, well that was certainly a whopper of snowstorm during an exceedingly cold day and night, which you don’t see all that often. I suppose to the folks who grew up with the old folk tale that it can be too cold to snow, we just destroyed that old fib, because it was in the single digits much of the day and night and we got pasted with 10-24” of accumulation across the region, and a bit more will develop today.
For today, we have our upper level system that still needs to lollygag and lumber through New England, which will produce pockets of light to moderate snow with some lulls at times, within which a couple of stronger pulses (one mid-day, the other early evening) will produce another coating to up to 3” of accumulation on top of yesterday’s snow dump / thump.
Highs will sit in the upper teens to mid 20s, and by about 8-11pm we should be done for good with our Sunday/Monday snow event, which will be followed by increasing northwest winds behind the upper low.
These winds will gust 25-40mph at times, and provide a reinforcing shot of cold air as lows tank into the single digits with wind chills dropping to -5º to -15º below zero, so the pre-dawn hours into the early daylight hours of Tuesday morning are going to be very, very cold, so bundle up tight.
Going forward, we will be dominated by high pressure through Saturday, with fair conditions, plenty of sunshine, and cold highs only in the mid teens to low 20s through the end of the week with lows in the single digits. BRRRRR!!
Our fresh, deep snow pack is going NOWHERE, and if that weren’t enough, I am now monitoring a coastal snowstorm signal for sometime between Saturday night to Monday in terms of its onset.
It’s still quite early, so it’s just a signal, but I will keep you updated. As you might know, I am in the middle of my annual Support Drive, so if you find value in my work, you can click the secure link below to contribute to my community weather reporting.
Thank you so much, Dave.
