POOR AIR QUALITY DEVELOPS BY THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WITH NEW AIR QUALITY ALERTS POSTED REGION-WIDE… COLD FRONT PASSES SOUTH AND PUSHES SMOKE PLUME AWAY FOR FRIDAY'S LOVELY LOOK

Good morning folks, waking up this morning has been a nice surprise to see this thing called the Sun, and the other thing called the blue sky. Enjoy it, because it’s going back behind a plume of smoke aloft and likely at the ground again this afternoon and evening. The good news is that a weak cold front will be strong enough to push the plume to our south after midnight tonight and set us up for a truly beautiful Friday, a day we’ll really appreciate after this yellow-brown eerie dream-like sleep-scape.

For today, we start with a nice morning with low humidity, and that will continue, but the plume is on the way back into the region by late morning into the afternoon.

Highs will only reach the mid 70s to low 80s due to the effect of smoke blocking solar radiation from reaching the surface, and a few showers are possible in northern MA on north into SVT and SWNH later today and this evening with the front. It may be a bit breezy later, too.

For tonight, smoke peaks once again before it’s driven south and away overnight with lows in the mid to upper 50s.

Friday looks lovely with sunshine and highs in the mid 70s to low 80s, with a few mid 80s possible in the lower valley. Lows will drop to the 55-60º range under partly cloudy skies, so that’s something to look forward to.

By Saturday, though, we’ll see our upper level trough that is sending a cold front through later today, track further south and rotate a disturbance around and into New England, which will bring clouds, and then areas of showers, downpours and thunderstorms later Saturday afternoon and especially overnight into early Sunday morning. Highs will only be in the 75-80º range, with lows in the 50s, and hopefully this will bring some beneficial rain.

I can’t rule out smoke being sent back into the region sometime this weekend or early next week, as the fires will be ongoing, but I will update as we get closer.

Sunday looks nicer after a wet start with increasing sunshine in the 75-80º range, which should extend through Sunday night (lows in the 50s) and into Monday with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s under sunny skies.

More showers are possible Tuesday into Wednesday, and especially on Tuesday so at least we’re getting some more rain chances and we’ve broken the heat with no heat waves in sight for now – we just gotta get through this issue of smoke aloft and at the ground at times, and for how long we have to deal with that remains to be seen.

Have a great a day!

–Air Quality Alerts are posted everywhere
–Highs reach the mid 70s to low 80s
–Smoke aloft and at the ground returns this afternoon and evening before a front dives south and drives it south and away
–Southwest and westerly breezes develop this afternoon, but may only gust to 20mph due to smoke
–A few showers are possible in northern MA, SVT and SWNH by later afternoon with the front
–Lows dip to the mid to upper 50s, with even lower humidity tonight, as smoke is driven south and away after midnight
–Friday looks lovely, sunny, lower humidity, highs in the mid 70s to low 80s and lows in the 50s
–Saturday clouds up with a system moving in from the west, which may push some more smoke in here
–Highs reach the 75-80º range with showers by afternoon sometime
–Periods of showers, thunderstorms and downpours are looking more likely for Saturday evening and overnight, ending Sunday morning, with lows in the 60s
–Sunday morning could be wet, but sunshine should develop by afternoon with highs in the 75-80º range as we dry out
–Monday starts off next week with highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s with partial sunshine, before more showers visit us Tuesday and possibly into Wednesday with similar temps
–Stay tuned for smoke updates, as those are more near-term, so sky forecasts could change as move forward in time
