INCREASING SUNSHINE WITH A FEW SNOW SHOWERS OVERNIGHT… WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY TO FEATURE MIX OF SNOW AND RAIN AS MILDER TURNS TO COOLER BY LATE WEEK… POSSIBLE SUNDAY / MONDAY STORM...
Good morning folks, we’re heading into some milder temps this week which will produce snow and ice melt during the day, only to refreeze at night so watch for slick spots each morning. However, we’ve also got more inclement weather on the way, specifically for Wednesday afternoon/night, Friday afternoon/night, and possibly even by next Sunday and Monday, so with milder temps comes some more stormy clashes.
For today, a weak northern wave wafts through as it dissipates into the ethers, producing clouds with partly to mostly sunny skies developing behind its departure. Highs will reach the mid to upper 30s, with lows tonight in the low to mid 20s as clouds increase.
A few snow showers or even patchy drizzle is possible early Tuesday morning, so I can’t rule out a few isolated slick spots, mosty in high terrain areas. Otherwise, partly sunny skies should develop later in the day with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Clouds will increase at night with lows in the mid to upper 20s.
By Wednesday, we’re gonna see large upper ridge of higher than average pressures develop in the southern center of the country which will push the subtropical jet stream north into the central and northern part of the U.S.
The jet stream directs streamflow, and so Pacific disturbances will be forced northeast toward the Great Lakes and then east towards New England, and the first such disturbance will be riding along a thermal boundary that sets up over central or southern New England by Wednesday afternoon and night.
Colder air will be found to the north, and milder air to the south, and that clash will produce snow and rain over the greater WMass region by mid day Wednesday, and especially in the afternoon and night time hours.
Some light to even moderate accumulation is possible along and especially north of the Rt. 2 corridor in MA, SVT, and SWNH, as well as other parts of the western hilltowns by Thursday morning. Rain or mix is more likely south of Rt. 2, but it could snow there, too, so I will keep you updated.
Highs will reach the mid 30s to low 40s with lows in the 20s, with a drier day on Thursday to follow with highs that day settling into the mid to upper 30s under partly sunny skies.
By Friday, another storm will eject out of the Ohio Valley and depending on the latitude of its track, we could see more snow, ice and rain in our region by Friday afternoon and night with highs in the low to mid 30s.
A lot of uncertainty remains, and the potential is there for another storm over the weekend, so there’s lots I will be keeping track of and reporting to you in the coming days.
The Nutshell follows, and I hope you have a great day!
