COLD RULES THROUGH TOMORROW MORNING, FOLLOWED BY WET SNOW CHANGING TO ICE AND RAIN TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING… LUNAR ECLIPSE TUESDAY 6:06AM… INCREASINGLY MILDER WED-SUN...

Good morning folks, we have quite the cold start out there this morning with temps in the single digits and low teens, with some below-zero temps in SVT! I’m not saying we won’t have more cold shots in March, but the pattern is clearly flipping to Spring with milder surges going forward, with a chance to hit 60º this coming Sunday so this morning’s and tonight’s frozen snow pack will start to slowly melt through March.

For today, high pressure plays through New England from northwest to southeast, giving us one last shot of modified Arctic air with highs only in the 20s under sunny skies and lows in the single digits.

For Tuesday, we’ll cloud up with a storm ejecting east out of the Midwest, and pushing precip into antecedent cold air with highs in the 30s expected for the day. This will allow wet snow to break out by early afternoon or so, and we could see a slushy coating to an inch or so, but mild air will be working aloft.

This will flip us over to sleet and freezing rain, and eventually rain by Tuesday evening as precipitation becomes more showery in nature. Elevated areas like the Berkshires, SVT, SWNH and the western hilltowns, as well as northern CMass into eastern Franklin County may see some slick spots from icing, but this is not a major storm.

Lows will drop to near freezing Tuesday night, and then we’ll rebound nicely into the pick of the week, that being Wednesday. Increasing sunshine and southwest flow will help pump highs into the 45-50º range, and I’m telling you, It’s gonna feel good to get outside after this tough Winter!

Lows will drop to the low to mid 30s, and then another zonal system (a/k/a “flat tracker” or a storm that moves mainly west to east across the northern part of the country) will push towards us later Thursday afternoon and evening when more showers are possible. Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s on Thursday with lows in the 30s.

This storm looks a bit juicier and milder than the Tuesday system, so while some icing may occur at elevated areas late Thursday night, I think this is mostly a rain system that will provide for a wet Friday morning commute, and periods of rain through the day, quitting at night.

Highs will climb into the low 40s, but that’s about it, with lows in the low 30s.

By the weekend, I would say Saturday is probably the weekend pick, but both days look quite mild with highs well into the 50s, lows in the 30s, with a parlty sunny Saturday followed by a chance for showers by late Sunday or Sunday night.

Have a great day!
