MIXED TEMPS DURING THE DAY, MILDER SOUTHWEST, COOLER NORTHEAST WITH A FRONT ACROSS THE REGION… WE ALL GET MILD TONIGHT WITH INCREASE IN SHOWERS, THUNDER POSSIBLE, GUSTY SOUTHERLIES
Good morning folks, we’ve got all sorts of changes and differences in conditions on the way through early next week as our seesaw March weather madness continues, rarely a dull moment in the world of New England weather!
For today, we can expect mostly cloudy skies as a back door cold front has landed in our neck of the woods. Where this front actually sets up during the day will produce a wide variety of temps, from day time highs in the 60s along and south of it, and 40s and 50s north of it.
For now, the Rt. 2 corridor is the rough demarcation zone, with temps cooler north of there, and milder south of there, but unless I was along and south of the Pike in southern MA and northern CT where the milder temps are most likely, I’d be ready to layer up if needed.
We’ll see a few isolated showers by late morning to afternoon, but the day should mostly be dry until very late in the afternoon and certainly by tonight when showers will become more numerous, pushed into the region by said front returning as a warm front.
A downpour or rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out, and temps will hang in or even rise for some into the 50s overnight with higher dewpoints, so we’ll see a few waves of showers along with southerly gusts up to 30mph possible.
By early Thursday morning, a cold front will swing through the region and turn our wind out of the west-northwest with colder air pushing into the region.
This will help develop stronger wind gusts of 25-40mph or so by Thursday mid-day with high temps in the upper 30s to near 50º falling back during the afternoon, bottoming out in the mid to upper 20s tomorrow night.
There’s a low chance for some snow showers to form and coalesce enough to produce some fresh coatings over the Berkshires, western hilltowns or SVT.
By Friday, highs should reach the mid 30s to mid 40s with partly sunny skies early, followed by increasing clouds as a Clipper system passes to our north with breezy conditions expected.
This should bring mixed rain and snow showers by afternoon, and may cause some light accumulations in northwest MA into SVT and SWNH closer to the storm track, so I will update on that in the coming days.
That activity swings out of here by early Saturday with westerly breezes kicking up, so you’ll notice a windier pattern developing here.
Saturday looks like the pick of the weekend with highs in the mid 30s to mid 40s under partly sunny skies with lows way down into the low 20s.
By Sunday, a powerful Great Lakes blizzard will be forming and tracking northeast through the eastern Great Lakes and up into southern Quebec as it blows up into a powerhouse storm.
This will induce stronger southerly flow with increasing clouds and highs in the low to mid 40s, followed by southerly gusts increasing later in the afternoon and at night.
Showers will move into the region overnight into early Monday, and rain could fall heavily at times.
After that storm passes us sometime on Monday with highs spiking into the 50s, strong westerly gusts will develop and if trends continue, Wind Advisories might be needed.
Colder air will then advect into the region for Monday night into the middle of next week, by which time we’ll have to keep an eye on any coastal activity.
If a snowstorm is going to develop, that would be the timeframe to watch as we close out the third week or open the fourth week in March as colder air will be closer to the greater WMass region by that time.
Have a great day, peeps!

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–A frontal boundary has settled over southwestern areas of the greater WMass region this morning, and may dawdle around until it is forced back north of us as a warm front this evening
–A wide range of temps are probable, with 60s mostly south of Rt. 2, and upper 40s to 50s north and northeast of there in northern parts of WMass, CMass, SVT and SWNH
–A few showers are possible during the day, but it should be mostly dry and mostly cloudy
–For this evening, the front returns northeast as a warm front with more scattered showers arriving. Isolated thunder or a downpour is possible.
–Temps should hang in the 50s, and this will helps southerly gusts of 20-30mph to develop
–A cold front comes through early Thursday morning and switches wind out of the west with cooler temps moving into the region
–Temps may reach the upper 30s in the hills to near 50º in the valley before falling in the afternoon
–Westerly winds gust 25-40mph or so behind the front
–Low potential for some snow showers to develop that may coat the ground in the Berkshires by evening
–Lows will drop to the mid to upper 20s
–Friday is cooler, and more rain and snow showers are expected by late afternoon and overnight, with some light accumulations possible in SVT and far northwest MA
–Saturday is the pick of the weekend, partly sunny highs mid 30s to mid 40s, lows in the 20s
–Sunday sees clouds increase ahead of a strong storm that likely induces strong southerly gusts at night with rain showers developing at night, turning to steadier and heavier rain into early Monday
–Temps spike into the 50s to low 60s Monday and then another cold front rips through, producing strong westerly gusts which could cause isolated outages
–Colder by next Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the 30s
