ONE MORE ARCTIC BLAST IN THE PIPELINE AND THE SPRING SEESAW BEGINS… LOW 50S TOMORROW FOR HIGHS, NEAR ZERO FOR LATE SUNDAY NIGHT LOWS… LIGHT SNOW ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON… MORE SNOW TUES
Good morning folks, watch out for black ice patches early today and during any of these days coming up where we dip into the 20s or below for lows followed by above-freezing highs during the day as the snow melt/refreeze dance continues to work itself out through our region this late-Winter period.
We’ve got a pair of fair weather days to enjoy today and tomorrow with mostly sunny skies today, and parlty sunny skies trending to more clouds than sun for Saturday. Highs will climb to either side of 40º today, and well into the 40s tomorrow, with some low 50s expected from about Northampton south to Hartford in the CT River Valley!
Lows will be near 20º tonight, and in the low to mid 20s Saturday night as clouds continue to thicken.
We have one more Arctic front and cold blast left in the tank before we truly enter a new early Spring seesaw pattern.
Does it mean Winter is over?
No, it doesn’t, because if you’ve lived long enough in MA and can remember the 1970s, you remember it can snow a foot up until mid-May, and obviously March is still a late-winter month, and many of us remember the April Fool’s blizzard of 1997.
However, it does look like after an Arctic front comes through Sunday, we’ll start to get more and more surges of mild temps mixed into the region.
For Sunday, clouds will thicken as the front approaches, and light snow will break out by mid-day or afternoon with highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s. A coating to 2” looks possible by Sunday evening, and then temps will truly plunge down to either side of 0º for lows Sunday night!
Winter lovers, take a picture Monday morning because to me that’s the final peak of this Winter of 2025-26.
Monday will be cold, with highs in the upper teens to mid 20s, and lows int eh single digits under mostly sunny/clear skies.
By Tuesday, temps will come up another 10º, but clouds will be increasing as a storm will approach from the west. This system looks likely to bring a precipitation potpourri (say that 10 times fast) starting with snow and possibly changing to mix or rain, but I will have to update you as get closer.
After that, southwest flow continues to strengthen and we bust up into the low to mid 40s Wednesday and Thursday with another snow/rain system possible Thursday night.
Signals continue to grow for a spike in temperature by the following weekend or early that following week, but I will keep you updated on any and all of those changes as we start to entertain not just thoughts of but the reality of the incoming Spring of 2026.
Have a great day!

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–Weak high pressure builds east through the region today and tomorrow
–Mostly sunny today with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s, and lows either side of 20º
–Partly sunny, trending cloudier later on Saturday, with highs in the low 40s in the high terrain to low 50s in the valley, lows low to mid 20s at night
–Clouds thicken Sunday as an Arctic cold front approaches
–Highs only reach the upper 20s to mid 30s with light snow looking more likely now, starting around mid day
–At this point it looks like a coating to 2” is possible by evening
–Temps then PLUMMET to either side of 0º late Sunday night into early Monday morning as this Winter refreshes itself while it still can
–Monday is cold, highs in the upper teens to mid 20s with sunny skies, and lows in the single digits
–By Tuesday we start to get back into a southwest flow ahead of an incoming storm system that may pass over us or to our north
–Highs will reach the low to mid 30s, and snow will break out at some point by afternoon the way it looks now with some accumulation
–We may then mix with or flip to some form of ice and/or rain
–Then we’re back into the upper 30s to mid 40s Wednesday and Thursday with partly to mostly sunny skies
–Another system may arrive with snow or mix Thursday night into Friday, and then signals continue to show a more robust mildening into the 2nd week of March
