SCATTERED MIXED LIGHT SHOWERS THIS MORNING… A FEW MORE SHOWERS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON, CHILLY… OUR BLOCKING PATTERN HITS ITS ZENITH THURSDAY WITH SOME GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS...

Good morning folks, we’ve got mixed showers out there this morning with rain, snow, and mixed rain and snow reported. As our weak system rides along a warm front that is just west of us (and won’t make it east of our region) we’ll see cooler temps today with highs in the 40s, along with scattered generally light mixed showers this morning, turning to rain showers as temps rise into mid-day and tapering off by mid to late in the afternoon.

It’ll be cloudy and chilly as our blocking pattern continues with an upper low over Atlantic Canada that is currently stuck in place and will even track southwest towards Maine (i.e. retrograde) through Thursday before high pressure to its east opens up, lowers, and allows it to escape seaward.

That is what’s causing the delay with getting our temps up into a more seasonable zone of 50s to low 60s for highs, though that is coming.

Lows tonight will dip into the mid to upper 30s.

For Thursday, our upper low backs closer to us, but a ridge will be pushing in from the Ohio Valley so some drying presses in from the east with showers in eastern MA that may graze parts of CMass or far northeast CT.

Otherwise, we should see partly sunny skies develop with northwest winds gusting 20-35mph between the upper low east and upper ridge west. Lows will drop into the 30s once again.

By Friday through the weekend, that blocking pattern east of Canada and up to Greenland should start to break down, and allow our upper low an escape route which allows our upper ridge to press east and produce more in the way of sunshine and seasonably mild temps well into the 50s during Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with chilly lows in the 30s as radiational cooling sets up.

By early next week, we may push a smidge milder with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s under sunny skies ahead of what may be a frontal passage by Tuesday night into Wednesday with more showers possible by that time.

Have a great day!
