HEAT ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN HOISTED FOR THE PIONEER VALLEY POINTS EAST AND SOUTH AS HEAT, HUMIDITY PEAKS TUES. & WED… SPOT SHOWER THIS MORNING, OTHERWISE SUNNY & HOT WEEK AHEAD...
Good morning folks, we’re in a very dry and increasingly hot and humid pattern for this week, so our drought situation isn’t going to be moving in the right direction unfortunately, but there is A Modicum of Hope (book title, mayhaps?) for next week which is looking a bit more unsettled. But for this week? We’re gonna bake again with a new heat wave Tuesday through Thursday.
For today, we have a few showers passing east through the region, but we should be dealing with mostly sunny skies overall over the course of the day with highs well into the 80s to near 90º with light wind, and lows in the low to mid 60s with tolerable humidity levels.
For Tuesday, high pressure will position to our south driving hotter and more humid southwesterly flow as the eastern edge of a potent upper ridge over the northern center of the U.S. spreads it’s right wing over New England.
This combination and position higher pressures both aloft and at the surface will drive our temps and humidity higher with highs Tuesday and Wednesday reaching the mid 80s to mid 90s, and I can’t rule out a few upper 90s readings by Wednesday.
Humidity will be coming up with dewpoints well into the 60s and 70s by Tuesday afternoon and evening, and temps will likely not drop below 70º in many parts of the greater WMass region Tuesday night, so it’ll be tough to get comfortable tomorrow night for sleepy times.
Again, sunshine abounds this week, and lows Wednesday night will drop into the 60s followed by a still-hot-but-not-quite-as-hot Thursday with highs in the low 80s to low 90s followed by lows that drop to either side of 60º as a front comes through.
The late week into weekend timeframe is likely to include more seasonable highs in the low to mid 80s, lows in the 55-60º range, and some measure of shower and thunderstorm activity, especially over the weekend, which I will refine for you as we get closer.
This will be due to an upper trough that builds southward out of Quebec, Canada, and reintroduces colder air aloft, which helps create more atmospheric buoyancy, resulting in rising air, convection, and hopefully some scattered bits of rainfall.
If we’re lucky, the signals for the following week will come to pass, as we need more rainfall to lay down and into our beloved hills and dales.
Have a great a day!

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–An upper ridge over the northern U.S. and surface high passing to our south sets us up for a heat and humidity surge this week
–An upper trough developing over Quebec by late week and the weekend cools to seasonable warmth and brings back shower/storm chances
–Our Monday is very warm with highs in the 80s to near 90 under mostly sunny skies with tolerable humidity, and lows in the low to mid 60s
–A few hit or miss showers this morning track west to east, may be briefly heavy
–Tuesday through Thursday become hot and increasingly humid, with highs Tues. and Wed. in the mid 80s (hills) to mid 90s (valley), and highs Thursday in the low 80s to low 90s
–Plenty of sunshine expected, with uncomfortable lows in the low to mid 70s Tuesday night, then 60s Wed. night, and near 60º Thurs. night
–The ridge breaks down by Friday, as seasonable highs return in the low to mid 80s under mostly sunny skies
–Upper trough influence may bring back some more showers and thunderstorms by Saturday and Sunday with highs in the low to mid 80s and lows 55-60º
–Weak signals for more rainfall by the following week
