HEART OF WINTER SETS IN WITH TRUE ARCTIC BLAST THIS WEEKEND INTO NEXT WEEK WITH A MONDAY SNOWSTORM POSSIBLE… BREEZY AND COLD TODAY INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING… SNOW SHOWERS WEDNESDAY PM

Good morning everybody, after our January thaw, we’ve clearly snapped back into Winter with fresh snowpack over the weekend and cold temperatures. And based on what I’m seeing, we’re entering the heart of this much more wintry Winter of 2025-26 compared to recent winters, as a true Arctic blast is set to arrive by this Friday night.

Before that happens, we’ve got a plenty-cold day for our Tuesday with highs only in the mid teens to low 20s with a breezy start and gusts up to 30mph which will drive wind chills to near zero degrees at times later this morning.

It will be sunny today, and winds will slacken as we sit way down into the single digits for lows with some folks just below zero in the western high terrain west of I-91.

For Wednesday, any early partial sunshine will fade to clouds in the afternoon with milder highs reaching well into the 20s as a warm front approaches the region from the west.

By late afternoon or evening, snow showers will break out for Wednesday night, but should be blotchy or scattered in their coverage, capable of producing a coating to up to an inch of snow by early Thursday morning with lows in the low to mid 20s.

That activity associated with a low pressure system passing north of us will drag a warm front through for about 24 hours, producing Thursday highs into the mid 30 to low 40s, so be sure to get outside Thursday and enjoy that mild air, because it’s going away for at least a week if not much longer!

For Thursday night into early Friday morning, please watch out for black ice as our snow melts and then refreezes. Lows Thursday night will drop into the mid to upper teens and highs on Friday under partly sunny skies will only rise into the 20s as a cold front careens through the region.

By Friday night, lows will drop to either side of 0º with even colder wind chills, and Cold Weather Advisories may need to be hoisted by the NWS during parts of the weekend in parts of our region, so I will keep you updated.

It’ll be breezy this weekend with northwest gusts to 20mph or so and highs in the single digits to mid teens both day, with lows either side of 0º.

At least fair weather should prevail, but by early next week the signal is growing for a potential moderate to major snowfall, especially along and south of the Pike in southern parts of WMass and CMass, down into northern CT, so I will keep you updated.

Have a great day!
