15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE SPRINFIELD TORNADO… ONE MORE COOLER DAY & NIGHT COMBO AHEAD, FOLLOWED BY WARMING TREND ALL WEEK INTO THE START OF THE UPCOMING WEEKEND…
Good morning folks, as many of us remember, 15 years ago today was a terrifying day down in Hampden County into southwest Worcester County, and probably the most atmospherically unstable day I’ve ever lived through. The Springfield Tornado of June 1, 2011 took 3 lives, and injured over 200 folks, tracking 39 miles through southern sections of WMass and CMass. If you lived through this F3 tornado, I would appreciate your story.
As for our weather this week, it’s a far cry from that severe weather day with a cool partly sunny day ahead that will be influenced (temperature-wise, anyway) by a nearby upper level trough that will keep temps in the 60s for highs today under partly sunny skies. A couple of isolated showers or thunder rumbles are possible in the afternoon, but most will stay dry and lows drop into the 40s with patchy fog developing.
Tuesday is basically a repeat of our Monday, but with milder temps and highs rising into the upper 60s to mid 70s with lows closer to 50º.
Wednesday is when we really start to warm up as our upper low/trough slowly kicks further east and an upper ridge starts to climb the eastern U.S. coastline.
Highs should reach the mid 70s to low 80s with plenty of sunshine, and lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s.
By late week into Saturday, we’ll become very warm thanks to that upper ridge with highs in the upper 70s to upper 80s Thursday, low to mid 80s Friday, and then the 80s to 90º on Saturday with abundant sunshine expected as of this writing.
Check back for any changes to the forecast, as always. Lastly, Saturday afternoon and evening may feature a cold front that would be our next chance at any appreciable rainfall, which is likely to be followed by a still-warm, but cooler Sunday.
Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
