FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR NORTHERN CT. PERIODS OF RAIN MOSTLY SOUTH OF THE RT. 2 CORRIDOR TODAY, DRIER NORTHERN MA INTO SVT & SWNH. COOL TEMPS. STEADIER, HEAVIER RAIN TONIGHT...

Good morning folks, we’ve got a pair of cooler days on the way with highs only in the mid 60s to low 70s today and tomorrow with periods of rainfall, heaviest and steadiest south of the Pike with lighter amounts north of the Pike, and potentially very little to even none in portions of southern VT and southwest NH which will be further away from our storm system’s rain shield.

We’ve had around a third to two-thirds of an inch of rainfall so far from this system in northern CT, whereas in MA we’ve only had a few hundredths of an inch up to a quarter inch or so, and that is south of the Rt.2 corridor – along it and north of there we’ve gotten bupkis.

If you extrapolate forward in time, that’s the expected general layout of rainfall from this system through Tuesday afternoon – generally speaking, 1-3” of rainfall will fall south of the Pike, especially in northern CT, and about a tenth of an inch to an inch of rain north of the Pike, with little to none in northern parts of SVT and SWNH, with potential for a sharp northern cutoff in appreciable rain totals.

So, expect periods of showers and rain south of the Rt. 2 corridor today, steadiest south of the Pike, and then by later tonight a final northerly push of steadier and heavier rain is expected in all of WMass, CMass, northern CT and southern parts of SVT/SWNH into Tuesday morning after lows dip into the 50s.

Once we get to Tuesday mid-day, showers should be tapering off from west to east, but may linger with some wraparound moisture (which is kind of a wintry coastal storm setup!) in central MA and far northeast CT through Tuesday afternoon.

Highs again Tuesday, like today, will be in the mid 60s to low 70s with lows in the 50s, so the cool temps will be nice after that powerful heat wave we just endured.

Wednesday and Thursday look like a pair of summah-ry winners with highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s Wednesday, highs in the 85-90º range Thursday, and lows in the 60s both night with plenty of sunshine and dry conditions.

Humidity will be creeping up late week, however, and by Friday into Saturday we’re going to likely see that humidity and summer warmth acted upon by an incoming wave that will spark some afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms Friday and Saturday afternoon in the greater WMass region with highs well into the 80s.

Sunday looks drier, warm, and sunny with highs in the low to mid 80s to round out the weekend.

Have a great a day!

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–Periods of rainfall today, mainly south of the Rt. 2 corridor in parts of WMass, CMass and especially northern CT
–The further south you go, the steadier and at times, heavier the rain will be
–Highs will be very cool today only in the mid 60s to low 70s or so, with lows in the 50s
–A more northerly push of steadier and heavier rainfall is expected for tonight into the first half of Tuesday, which should push north of the MA/VT-NH border for a time
–Rain winds down Tuesday afternoon, except for perhaps CMass and northeast CT where it may linger until early evening as the storm pulls away
–Highs Tuesday will also be in themed 60s to low 70, with lows in the mid to upper 50s
–By Wednesday and Thursday, high pressure will be nosing in behind our departing early-week rain maker
–This will produce sunshine, dry conditions, and highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s on Wednesday, and then very warm to hot highs in the 85-90º range for Thursday
–Lows will hang in the 60s both nights
–By Friday into Saturday, another mid-level wave will act on our new warmth and humidity, and help produce some afternoon scattered showers and thunderstorms each day
–Call those days partly sunny with highs well into the 80s with drier conditions by Sunday, yet similar temps
