PERIODS OF LIGHT SNOW THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING, COATING TO 2” BY MIDNIGHT… SNOW/MIX TO RAIN TUESDAY EVENING INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY… MORE RAIN AND MILDER TEMPS FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY
Good morning folks, we have a few systems to work through the region over the next 7 days with light snow this afternoon, mix to rain tomorrow night into Wednesday morning, and rain Friday into Saturday as our pattern shifts to a milder setup as an old school January thaw develops after a very cold December and start to 2026.
For today, clouds will increase as a Clipper system dives southeast towards our region out of the eastern Great lakes. This is a moisture-starved system, and has been trending a little more north, so while a few periods of light snow or even freezing drizzle is expected in northern CT, this light impact system mainly affects WMass, CMass, SVT and SWNH with a coating to 2” of snowfall by midnight tonight.
Today will be the coldest day of the week with highs in the mid to upper 20s and after an onset of snow early to mid afternoon, a few slick spots may develop.
Lows tonight will drop into the upper teens to low 20s with some lingering snow showers or freezing drizzle patches, and then we’ll dry out late.
For Tuesday, we’ll see more clouds than sun, with increasing clouds late and highs in the mid to upper 30s as our flow turns more southwest as milder air surges northeast into New England.
A warm front will lift our way Tuesday evening and spawn showers of snow, sleet and freezing rain by early evening, and may cause some high-terrain slick spots. Milder air should continue to push in overnight, but freezing rain may persist at elevation as we change to plain rain overnight in most areas.
I will update on this transitional storm system as we get closer, but generally speaking it’s going to produce a mix to rain Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with lows in the low to mid 30s.
By Wednesday, a ridge of high pressure will be pressing into the south of New England and causing our temps to become milder, ranging from the upper 30s to low 40s Wednesday to the low to mid 40s on Thursday, and well into the 40s on Friday with some spots hitting 50º (with lows in the 20s to low 30s).
This will be an increasingly fair weather period with Thursday being the sunniest day and clear pick of the week.
By Friday, a stronger system will be developing over the middle of the country and tracking northeast towards the eastern Great Lakes, well west of us.
This will beget milder temperatures, and some rain showers by Friday afternoon or evening, with a reinforcing shot of rainfall Saturday into Saturday night as the storm deepens and tracks closer to us.
By Sunday, a cold front will be approaching the region, and pass through at some point allowing colder air to drain back into the region with stronger northwesterly wind gusts Sunday night and especially by Monday.
I hope you have a great day!
