CHILLY START LEADS TO LOVELY FRIDAY FOLLOWED BY A MOSTLY CLOUDY WEEKEND WITH A RAINY CENTER ESPECIALLY ON SUNDAY WHICH LOOKS LIKE A SOAKER AT THE MOMENT… SHOWERS ARRIVE SATURDAY PM

Good morning everybody, while we’ve got a lovely end to the week, at this point we can only hope for a nicer end to the Memorial Day Weekend because as of now, it’s looking mostly cloudy and much cooler for Saturday and especially Sunday which looks rainy and raw prior to a warm-up on Monday leading into next week.

Today is really the pick of the next 4, with Tuesday clocking in as the next fully nice (and warmer!) day that we can see down life’s highway. Highs will reach the mid 60s to low 70s with light northeast flow today, with lows dropping into the 40s overnight with calm wind and increasing clouds.

Saturday will be 5-10 degrees cooler with highs only in the upper 50s to mid 60s as clouds thicken, and first showers arrive by late afternoon into the evening from southwest to northeast as our warm front draped off of a low well northwest of New England slowly pushes its rain shield into New England. Lows will drop to the 40s Saturday night.

By Sunday, we’ll wake up wet, and rainfall is likely to fall in a steadier, more stratiform presentation (i.e. a “rainstorm”) with periods of rainfall through the day and into Sunday night.

Southeast flow will pick up ahead of the front and will gust 20-30mph at times with highs only in the upper 40s to mid 50s from high terrain to the valley, so I think “raw” is going to be an apt description of Sunday and Sunday night’s weather. Lows will hang in the 40s.

Memorial Day Monday looks warmer for sure, as the front keeps moving through to our east and northeast, pushing highs into the upper 60s to mid 70s. Some morning showers are possible, but drying and brightening should occur during the afternoon with some sunny breaks possible later in the day. Lows will hang in the 50s as warmer air keeps pushing into the region.

The Tuesday to Wednesday timeframe looks quite warm with highs in the 70s to low 80s with increasing sunshine, but there are some signals of Canadian high pressure cooling us back down for late next week and especially over next weekend so I’ll have to keep you updated on the trends as we get closer.

In the meantime, this Sunday will certainly be renamed Soupday, and I expect pics from all of you New England culinary masters!

Have a great day!
