I SPOKE TO SOON, HEAT WAVE FOR SOME IN LOWER PIONEER VALLEY OF WMASS THROUGH MID WEEK… RECORD HIGH TEMPS PROBABLE FOR TUESDAY. ISOLATED STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE TUES
Good morning folks, I hope you had a good weekend, mine was great as I spent time with some great old college friends up in the great state of Vermont near Okemo, one of whom owns and operates New England Cider Doughnuts in Ludlow, VT right on Rt. 103, so stop in there if you’re ever in that neck of the woods. As far as our weather is concerned, we’re in the middle of a very anomalous heat pattern with a strong upper ridge building northward along the east coast of the U.S. into southern New England through Tuesday and Wednesday.
This will continue to drive mostly sunny skies through the next three days with the exception of afternoon isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms, some of which may “stand up” and get a bit gnarly for Tuesday and Wednesday before we cool down late week into next weekend.
For today, expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the low 80s to low 90s from high terrain to the southern Pioneer Valley. A spot shower may pop in the Berkshires, but we should remain dry. Lows will dip into the 60s.
For Tuesday, a number of record high temps set in 2017 and 2021 will likely fall as the heat ridge makes its northernmost push, and drives highs into the upper 80s to upper 90s, all while increasing humidity.
Suffice it to say, if you have respiratory ailments, work outside, or have other heat-related infirmities, you gotta take it easy tomorrow, especially in the afternoon. In addition, we’ll also be placed into a pre-frontal zone with higher humidity, increased moisture, and so the potential for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms will be seen most notably in the Berkshires up into SVT. Hail and strong gusty winds will be possible.
Lows will hang in the upper 60s to low 70s, so it will be unpleasant for sleeping given the added humidity.
On Wednesday, we’ll be watching a cold front approaching the region which will switch out the air mass to a much more seasonable one for late week through the weekend at least.
Our final day of heat and humidity for this stretch will produce highs in the mid 80s to low 90s, and depending on the timing of the cold front, more showers and thunderstorms may develop than Tuesday, and some could become strong to severe with a better organization along the incoming frontal boundary.
Lows will drop into the mid 40s to low 50s, emptying us into a much more pleasant air mass for Thursday and Friday with highs in the 60s to near 70º, with lows in the 40s along with fair weather conditions.
By Saturday, a storm system will be working into the region out of the Ohio Valley, and this could bring us some substantial and needed rainfall for Saturday night into Sunday with temps in the upper 50s to 60s.
Have a great day and stay cool during the first half of this week!
