EARLY MORNING SHOWERS SOUTH OF PIKE THEN A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON… DRIER WORKS INTO THE REGION INTO FRIDAY AND THROUGH LABOR DAY WEEKEND INTO WED...

Good morning folks, the stable, cooler air over the greater WMass region last night really tamped down the shower and storm activity for many. Rain fell but significantly less than expected, though we still have a few heavier showers over northwest CT and the far southern Berkshires this morning. These will track through, drier air will work in, some sunny breaks will develop, and isolated showers and storms will form in the afternoon.

However, with drier air aloft today, no storms should become severe as their updrafts will not be supported as they rise. Still, a strong t-storm can’t be ruled out, especially south of the Pike this afternoon.

Assuming the sunny breaks manifest as forecast, our high temps should soar into the mid 70s to mid 80s with very humid conditions, so it’ll feel like later Summer for sure.

This surface heating and humidity should help spawn showers and storms in scattered coverage, but the drier air aloft should help prevent them from becoming severe, the way it looks now.

Any activity will weaken and dissipate tonight, with lows dropping to either side of 60º with patchy fog developing late.

Friday will feature one more warm day with highs similar to today (mid 70s to mid 80s), with decreasing humidity, partly sunny skies, and a few afternoon showers possible. Lows will dip into the 50s.

Despite a few isolated showers Saturday afternoon, high pressure is going to be building into the region through Tuesday from our northwest, in conjunction with a departing upper trough well northeast of us, which will promote drying, northwest flow.

This means increasing sunshine through the rest of the Labor Day Weekend into next Wednesday morning, so the holiday weekend is looking fabulous.

Highs mainly in the upper 60s to upper 70s are expected from high terrain to the valley Saturday through Tuesday, with lows in the upper 40s to 50s under mostly clear skies, so get outside and enjoy this last hit of summah!

By Wednesday evening into late week some more rain is possible, but we’ll get to that later. I will keep an eye on things today, and update you later if warranted.

Have a great day!
