BREEZY & BRIGHTER FOR OUR MONDAY WITH FAIR AND COOLER WEATHER THIS WEEK… BY FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND A NOR’EASTER REMAINS POSSIBLE WITH POTENTIAL WAVES OF RAIN AND STRONG GUSTY WIND

Good morning folks, thank you very much for all of the soup/food pics here on the FB page yesterday and this morning! I’m always grateful to be able to have the time, resource, tools and shelter to putter on a showery Sunday and make nourishing food and to be able to stay out of the elements.

We ended up with about a third of an inch to an inch of rainfall in most spots, though some saw a bit less. Our upcoming weather’ll be easy on the bones through mid-day Friday, but after that I continue to watch signals for a strong coastal storm capable of heavy rain and strong wind gusts, so I will keep you updated through the week on that potential.

For today, any morning patchy fog will burn off and we’ll develop a partly sunny day with high pressure pushing in from the northwest and north. That’ll kick up some northerly gusts up to 20mph, and temps should top out well into the 60s for most of us. Lows will dip into the low to mid 40s with increasing clouds late as a system passes south of us for Tuesday.

Morning cloudiness will give way to partly to mostly sunny skies for our Tuesday as high pressure continues to sag south into northern New England into the mid-week period. I can’t rule out a spot shower Tuesday south of the Pike, but it’s unlikely at this point.

Highs Tuesday through Thursday should reach the upper 50s to mid 60s with lows in the low to mid 40s for most of us in the greater WMass region.

The bottom line is that giant high pressure cell to our north will keep cool northerly flow in place and also maintain partly to mostly sunny skies through much of this week, so dry fair weather should result.

By Friday, a strong coastal storm will be positioned south-southeast of New England over the western Atlantic Ocean.

Depending on the orientation and shape of the eastern flank of our Canadian high pressure system, along with the track and development of an upper to our west as it heads east, we’ll either see our ocean surface low become “captured” and/or directed north, then northwest and then west along the southern New England coast in a retrograde motion with the help of our high and upper low, or the surface low will be allowed to stay mostly over the ocean and head out to sea, maybe just impacting the Cape and Islands.

If the upper low can draw the surface northwestward and/or the high can sort of curl around the eastern side of our developing ocean low, it will have no escape path out to sea, and could become a multi-day, very strong early-season Nor’easter capable of serious beach erosion, and for us, strong gusty winds up to 45mph or so, and heavy rain at times, over a period of several days.

Nothing is set in stone, obviously, but if it were to come to pass it could be a potent storm system lasting all weekend, so I will continue to update you as we get closer to the end of this week.

Meanwhile, enjoy the Autumnal, cooler, but fair weather that is moving into the region for much of this week after our soggy Sunday!

Have a great day!
