WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES CONTINUE FOR SVT… WINDY PERIOD UPCOMING, ESPECIALLY SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND MONDAY NIGHT, WIND ADVISORIES LIKELY… ELEVATION-BASED ACCUM. SNOW TONIGHT...

Good morning folks, we’re kicking off the day with cold temps in the 20s and 30s, and a mostly sunny start, which will be followed by an incoming Clipper of Robustness (COR) that will eject east out of the Lake Erie / western NY region and pass through northern New England overnight into early Saturday.

This will cause clouds to increase later today, and should produce a couple of precipitation pulses, the first one being on the weaker side around dinner time with elevation snow and valley rain/mix.

Thereafter, more towards the 9pm-Midnight period is when rounds of snow showers will develop and last into the pre-dawn hours with perhaps some valley dustings, although light accumulations of a coating to 2” or so should be relegated to the northern Litchfields, Berkshires, western hilltowns, northern CMass, eastern Franklin County highlands, SWNH and SVT.

In addition, as the low sweeps east of our longitude destined to crank up over the Gulf of Maine, upslope snow showers will develop in the Berkshires and especially in the southern Greens of VT.

It is in the southern Greens where more like 2-6” could accumulate by Saturday noon, as upslope snow showers should persist there (and possibly into far northwest MA) through Saturday morning.

Thereafter, we’re gonna see snow quit and strong westerlies kick up by tomorrow afternoon behind this developing and deepening system, with gusts of 30-50mph at times, and maybe a touch higher that.

This will like prompt the hoisting of Wind Advisories by tonight by the NWS, with some isolated outages possible given gusts of that magnitude.

It’ll be breezy Saturday night and dry, followed by increasing clouds on Sunday ahead of our next storm system which will bring copious rain and wind with it, and potential for outages and/or minor flooding issues.

Rain should hold off until late Sunday night when the first pulse of rain and possibly sleet showers work into the region early Monday morning.

After that we should get a lull with the main pulse of heavier rainfall and stronger wind moves in by late Monday afternoon and especially Monday night when gusts up to 50mph will be possible along with rain totals of 1-2” by Tuesday morning.

So Monday night into early Tuesday looks tempest-y ahead of the cold frontal passage will sweep the rain and the southerlies out to sea as Tuesday progresses.

Winds should kick around to the west-southwest on Tuesday with breezy conditions developing behind the front. Given this, increasing drying will be transpiring, followed by cooler air working into the region.

The Tuesday to Thursday timeframe looks drier and cooler with this late-Winter cold shot peaking on Wednesday, but that just means highs will be in the 30s, which we can take after this Winter!

Looking further out, I don’t see a pattern that will be conducive to coastal late-winter storms. Instead, it looks like a “nose-down” flow, sort of west-northwest to east-southeast out of the Great Lakes with a series of Clippers into New England that could bring some elevation snowfall and valley rains during the second half of March with no big warm-ups noticed at the moment.

Have a great day, peeps and I will update about tonight’s elevation snow later, and check out Your Nutshell and Celestials below, and join the FB conversation below that, if you wish!

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–Cold and sunny to start, then clouding up, highs mid 30s to low 40s
–Some valley rain/mix and hilltown snow showers this evening around dinner time then a probable lull
–More robust snow showers toward midnight into early Saturday morning with upslope snow showers forming in the Berkshires / SVT
–Lows upper 20s to low 30s
–A coating to 2” or so in the western hilltowns, Berkshires, northern Litchfields, northern CMass / eastern Franklin County hills, SWNH and SVT either side of the Greens
–2-6” in the southern Greens themselves with upslope snow showers continuing through Saturday AM
–Behind robust Clipper system that passes east, westerly winds gust 30-50mph for Saturday noon to afternoon, with Wind Advisories likely needed for some areas
–Highs mid 30s to mid 40s, but feeling more like the mid to upper 20s with wind
–Lows Saturday night upper teens to mid 20s, less wind but breezy
–Sunday should be partly sunny early with lower wind and highs mid 30s to mid 40s with clouds increasing late
–Clouds thicken Sunday night with lows in the low to mid 30s and some early Monday morning rain or sleet showers expected
–The first pulse of warm advection rainfall comes through Monday morning which looks wet, then we get a lull by afternoon, highs spike well into the 50s
–Southerly breezes pick up, then blow strong at 30-50mph into Monday night when heavier rain moves into the region, thunder possible
–Very rainy and windy Monday night into early Tuesday when the cold front sweeps through
–Some power loss is possible, and minor flooding as well
–Tuesday by noon through Thursday looks drier and cooler, with cold highs only in the 30s by Wednesday
–A series of Clipper systems could bring some additional terrain-based snow through the last half of March, but no big winter storms appear likely for now
