EXTREME COLD WATCHES HAVE BEEN HOISTED FOR THE BERKSHIRES, WESTERN HILTOWNS, SOUTHERN VT & NORTHWEST CT… COLD WEATHER ADVISORIES WILL LIKELY FOLLOW ELSEWHERE FOR SATURDAY NIGHT...
Good morning folks, I would ask that you please cycle through the post graphics this morning to check out the serious cold risks that are upcoming for this weekend, especially by late Saturday night into Sunday morning, so you’re aware and plan accordingly.
Today and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday) are going to be fine fair weather days with more sun today than Friday with tolerable temps in the twenties for highs, and cold single-digit lows tonight, with lows in the low teens for Friday night as clouds thicken right up.
Snow showers will break out around or after midnight leading into the pre-dawn hours of Saturday morning, and will continue into the early afternoon with a coating to 2” possible, along with a few snow squalls by late morning.
Behind that front, northwest winds will gust 25-40mph later in the afternoon and evening and highs in the mid teens to mid 20s will plunge to below zero (as low as -15º) with wind chills diving into the -20º to -35º range, which has prompted the hoisting of Extreme Cold Watches for our western high terrain.
It’s likely that all or some of those watches will be converted to Extreme Cold Warnings as we get closer to Saturday night, with Cold Weather Advisories likely filling in for the rest of the greater WMass region.
Sunday will be the coldest day and night we’ll see for a while, as I’m happy to say the Arctic cold shots will be lifting north of our region for the foreseeable future. Highs will only be in the single digits to teens with breezy conditions and below-zero wind chills. Lows will also dive down to as low as -10º by early Monday morning.
After that, we’ve got fair weather through at least mid week to enjoy with increasing highs starting in the mid teens to low 20s Monday and rising into the 20s to low 30s by mid week with plenty of sunshine. Lows will be in the single digits to low teens.
After that, we may be entering a more zonal flow pattern where milder air will be just to our south, with storm development occurring along that temperature boundary, with the potential to bring snow, mix or even rain events to our region, starting as early as Thursday.
Have a great day!
