WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY EXPANDS INTO THE BERKSHIRES AS MORNING LIGHT SNOW DEVELOPS… AN AFTERNOON LULL MAY RESULT IN FREEZING DRIZZLE UP TO THE MASS PIKE SPRINGFIELD TO WORCESTER...

Good morning folks, our warm frontal wave is causing snow to break out over northwest CT, southwest MA, and that will continue to spread into the rest of our greater WMass region through mid morning or so with light snow intensity.

There is a bust potential with this light system, in that the lift will become weaker during the middle of the day and when moist air can’t be lifted high enough into the atmosphere where the best snowflake-making conditions exist, we can see freezing drizzle or even plain drizzle develop, and that is possible for the Springfield to Worcester stretch south into northern CT.

Should that occur, we’d see under an inch after a coating of snow, so I wanted to make you aware of that possibility.

Otherwise, our light snow finger is sticking itself into our business today and most of us should see anywhere from 1-3” of snow by tonight, with 2-5” in the Berkshires (especially along and north of the Pike), into the far northwest hilltowns (Plainfield, Cummington, Hawley, Heath, etc.) and up into western Windham and eastern Bennington Counties in the southern Greens of VT (where a half foot is not out of the question).

For today, highs will reach the upper 20s to mid 30s and we’ll see periods of light snow into the evening, and again possibly mixed with freezing drizzle or very light rain/drizzle in far southern and southeastern parts of our region.

Snow ends tonight, except for some upslope snow showers in the Berkshires and SVT as a front comes through with lows in the mid to upper 20s.

Northwest winds develop by Wednesday morning, and may gust 25-40mph at times, so a blustery Wednesday morning into the early afternoon is expected with highs in the 35-40º range but early wind chills in the teens to mid 20s! Mostly sunny skies are expected.

For Christmas Eve, wind will drop off (good news!) with dry weather expected and lows bottoming out into the mid teens to low 20s so bundle up for any festivities!

Christmas Day features another front coming through with light winds in the morning, but a few high terrain snow showers are possible on the earlier side. Otherwise, we’re dry with more clouds than sun, and highs in the mid to upper 30s, which will then crash into the upper singles to mid teens for Christmas Night.

Again… bundle!

By Friday, clouds will increase and we could be dealing with a bit stronger of a snowstorm, one that could produce a more light-moderate snowfall across the region with cold highs in the 20s and lows in the teens with snow possibly lasting through the night and into part of Saturday!

In addition, more inclement weather is possible with another system by Sunday into Monday, so there’s lots to track this holiday season and I will do my best to keep you updated on all the weather coming our way, and any changes as well.

Hope you have a great day!
