INCREASING SUNSHINE TODAY INTO TUESDAY WITH SHOWERS BY WEDNESDAY… PATCHY FROST POSSIBLE TONIGHT… COASTAL RAINSTORM POSSIBLE FOR THURSDAY WITH SOME DRYING BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON…

Good morning folks, I’m still up and taking nourishment as my Dad used to say, and I hope that you can say that you’re doing the same, which is a true blessing indeed. We’re fortunate to live in a food-rich farming area like the CT River Valley, something I feel grateful for that every day. In terms of our weather, my former boss and good friend Ken taught me the concept of “right direction / wrong direction”, when looking at all overall life stuff, and our weather is certainly moving in the right direction if you dig Spring.

For today, though, we’ll continue with our generally cooler pattern for this 2nd work week of May which will feature general upper-level trough-iness (troughs, vs. ridges, produce chances for cooler temps and unsettled conditions which look more likely for Wednesday and Thursday into early Friday morning).

For our Monday, early clouds will give way to increasing sunshine as our frontal boundary and secondary low pulls seaward. Highs will reach the mid 50s to mid 60s with northwest gusts up to 20mph as cooler air advects into the region. Lows will dip into the low 30s to low 40s, so some patchy frost is possible in northwest MA and SVT.

For Tuesday, sunshine should abound with highs again in the mid 50s to mid 60s with lows either side of 40º as clouds increase.

By Wednesday, a storm system near the Great Lakes will extend its warm front in our direction, and push its rainy finger up and into our business (how rude!), again with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s. Showers should be scattered in nature, and become more numerous by later in the day. Lows Wednesday night hang in the 40s with showery conditions.

On Thursday, I’ll be watching to see how what may become our final upper level trough in the northeast U.S. and southeast Canada swings east and positions to our north while it tries to interact with a coastal storm developing off of the Mid-Atlantic coastline.

That coastal surface low is likely destined to track northeast into the Gulf of Maine, which after a brief lull on Thursday morning will produce more rainfall on Thursday into Thursday night for the greater WMass region, with thunder possible.

Highs AGAIN will be in the mid 50s to mid 60s with lows in the 40s as showers wind down by early Friday morning.

From Friday through the weekend, however, temps FINALLY appear to be on the way upward, with highs in the mid to upper 60s on Friday with partial sunshine by afternoon, followed by what at this moment looks like a wonderful weekend with sunshine and highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s, with some upper 70s possible by Sunday into Monday, so I will keep you updated and I hope that weekend forecast comes to pass for all you cold-season detesters!

Have a great day!

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–Clouds this morning give way to mostly sunny skies this afternoon
–Highs reach the mid 50s to low 60s with northwest gusts to 20mph at times
–Lows tonight in the low 30s to low 40s with patchy frost possible in SVT and northwest MA
–Tuesday is mostly sunny with highs in the mid 50s to mid 60s with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s as clouds build
–By Wednesday, a warm front extends east and pushes scattered showers into our region with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s
–Wednesday night is looking showery as well with lows in the 40s
–Any brief morning lull on Thursday looks to lead to another period of rainfall as a coastal low tracks from south of RI, northeast into the Gulf of Maine
–Highs will rise into the upper 50s to mid 60s, and thunder is also possible
–Showers or a thunderstorm continue Thursday night and abate towards dawn with a few Friday morning showers possible
–Friday will see improving conditions with highs in the mid to upper 60s under partly sunny skies
–This should lead to a true Spring weekend with highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s both days under sunny skies, so at the moment, that’s the North Star for folks who’ve grown tired of the cooler early to mid-spring conditions
