BLUSTERY AND COLD TODAY, DRY SATURDAY WITH LIGHT SNOW SOUTH OF RT. 2 CORRIDOR SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING… COATING TO 2”… ARCTIC FRONT SUNDAY BRINGS MORE WIND AND COLD...

Good morning folks, you could hear the wind howling last night from inside as Arctic air continued to empty into our region on the heels of our elevation-dependent snowstorm which brought up to 10” of snow in some mountain regions, along with periods of snow showers yesterday due to the lake effect off of Lake Ontario. We’ll be blustery today, but calm down before light snow arrives this weekend.

For today, westerly winds will gust 20-40mph through the day and probably increase a bit mid to late morning as temps come up and the surface atmosphere gets better mixed.

A mostly sunny day lies ahead with highs in the mid 20s to low 30s and lows tonight in the mid to upper teens with early breeziness, followed by a slackening of wind as high pressure pushes into the region, and our low pressure system pulls way out to sea.

For Saturday, any early morning partly sunny skies will give way to mostly cloudy conditions with highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s as our northern and southern stream disturbances attempt to come together over southern New England.

The southern piece is too slow to allow the northern piece to really grab it, amplify it and draw it northward (though some subtle shifts in track are possible still).

Given this, we’ll have a pretty flat-tracking (i.e. that is more west to east) system that won’t develop much, but is expected to push a coating to 2” of light accumulating snow through our region, mainly along and south of the Rt. 2 corridor, and especially south of the Pike, with NCT expected to see 1-2”, and possibly 3” in some spots.

The timing for light snow will be Saturday night after sunset into Sunday morning, with Sunday afternoon featuring drier conditions as yet another Arctic front (the last one in this series, many will be happy to hear) surges through our region. This will bring gusty winds again and crashing temps.

After Sunday highs in the 20s Sunday, lows will bottom out in the single digits, and wind chills will dive below zero by Monday morning as northwest winds pick up.

Monday looks like a mostly sunny day but very cold with highs in the mid teens to mid 20s and breezy conditions, with lows in the upper single digits to teens.

Tuesday starts off mostly sunny with highs either side of 30º, but a few snow showers will be possible at night as a warm front approaches the region.

By mid to late week, temps are coming UP as high pressure builds to our south and directs a more vigorous milder flow into the region. Highs will be well into the 30s by Wednesday, and then possibly well into the 40s late week as a bit of a thaw develops after this highly anomalous early December cold loses its grip as we approach the Winter Solstice… you know, when Winter actually begins!

Have a great day and hold the door for someone today!
