WEST SPRINGFIELD MACROBURST ON SATURDAY SHOULD PUT SEVERE WEATHER THREAT BEHIND US FOR NOW, SAVE FOR A STRONG -STORM LATE TODAY… HEAT PEAKS TODAY, HUMIDITY INCREASES BY TONIGHT…

Good morning folks, as I posted last night, West Springfield into Springfield experienced a macroburst on Saturday late in the day with a width greater than 2.5 miles (a microburst is less than 2.5 miles – macrobursts and microbursts are both types of “downbursts”) with a path length of over 3 miles with wind gust maxing out around 70mph. Thankfully, I don’t see any severe weather threats of that magnitude either late today (though a strong storm is possible) or Wednesday night into Thursday when a pattern-changing cold front sweeps the region.

For today, we should enjoy mostly sunny skies for a good part of the day with humidity increasing as the day AND night wears on as high temps max out in the 80s to near 90º as a light southwest wind develops.

As humidity increases, a disturbance will act on that setup and produce scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms late this afternoon into early evening. A storm or two could become strong with heavy rain and strong gusty wind, but as of now, severe weather is not expected.

After that activity dies out this evening, lows will drop into the low to mid 60s overnight, which will be humid, so patchy fog is possible late.

For Tuesday and Wednesday, we should see humidity s l o w l y decrease into the mid-week period with sunshine both days and highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s. Lows will drop into the 55-60º range, and clouds will build late on Wednesday.

Two storms will be passing near or through our region over the next 7 days, with the first one being north of us on Wednesday night into Thursday, which will force a cold front through by the middle of the day on Thursday.

As this happens, clouds will thicken Wednesday night and showers with some thunder possible will move into and through the region, lasting into Thursday for a period of time.

The chance for severe weather is mitigated by a nighttime frontal passage, which tends to keep instability down due to lack of surface heating, but I will keep an eye on it and update you as we get closer.

The bottom line is that once any showers/storms clear the region by Thursday afternoon, our pattern change to cooler, drier conditions will be pressing into the region and staying through at least Saturday.

Thursday highs will crest into the low 70s to low 80s from hills to valley, with lows dropping firmly into the 50s as much drier air works into the region

By Friday and Saturday, cooler highs in the upper 60s to upper 70s will abound along with dewpoints in the 50s, and possibly even upper 40s by Saturday, with lows in the upper 40s to mid 50s both nights – The Crispening is happening.

By Sunday, the second of two aforementioned storms may run over or just south of our region, bringing a period of rainfall, and likely a reinforcing shot of cooler/drier conditions behind it to kick off the following work week.

Have a great day!
